Noob here so I will jump on. Misery loves company.

Luckily, only 1 drop so far. (posting this probably just got me another here shortly)

Total dumb luck. Came back from long ride in the hot, hot Texas heat one day and parking it. I was extremely hot and tired. Went to put kickstand down and heard the "pop/clack" sound of it locking down. Then went to lay bike over on stand........but no stand (it had sprung back up instead of down). I went over with it. I was hellbent on not hurting it and locked my arms straight trying not to let it hit the ground. Fell on my back and shoulder and kept most of it off the ground. Only some small scratches on lower fairing. Literally killed me and could not stop thinking about it and touch-up paint would not fix it right. Took off fairing and had painted the next week. Good as new. $250 fine.

P.S. Had my Honda riding jacket on and guess those shoulder and back pads in them really do work! lol

No sense in painting it-the vfr will just wait till you get it nice and shinny and fall right over again, I too had the vfr all most broke my foot, using my boot as a slider-it did work, but really hurt. After that I put sliders on:heh:

there is no shame in drop, these bikes are very top heavy. I have been drop free this year. But it was close a few times, it pays to be carefull.

Mine was more of an accident than a drop. Never dropped it, but I just recently turned it into a lawn dart. See my thread in the 5th gen section for more details.

.........Newsflash........dateline.......July 17 2015........VFRWorld Intoxicated Press report Skifreak did the ultimate freak show. Earlier reports from a source of unknown reliability suggest this was disclosed in another thread at 07:32 hours on this date. This reporter has been unable to confirm this report but believes it to be true. Information has it that Skifreak is blaming leaky front forks for this mishap. Our investigative reporters will not follow up on this and just call him on it. Added to the list Skifreak.

there is one thing I fail to understand, the forks didn't leak until the bike fell down, so how did this factor into the drop? Could be a space warp backwards according to Einstein?

After months of restoring my 83, it tipped over in the driveway with me on it! Had a cement patio stone under center stand to raise front end, and right side was too close to the edge of it. Went to push down on the forks to test after putting them back together and the bike slipped forward off the edge and tipped over. Fortunately, the tank was not on, and miraculously my leg and foot stopped it from hitting ground hard, had to use left leg to push up on frame to get right leg out! No damage at all!!! Can't say the same for fiberglass panels on the side of my carport, as my body punched a nice hole through them. Foot a little sore, elbow scraped up, but very very fortunate for the lack of damage.

So Randy you can put me on the list, if first gens count.

    Hate hearing stuff like this
Better to take one for the team then let your bike get damaged.

Of course it does. We don't discriminate against old buggas even if they have had face lifts, botox injections or tit implants.

    Well that was dumb

When out to warm up the 700 for the ride to work. My driveway is gravel and sloped. In a hurry so I just put it in neutral, started it, let go and it held.
Went to get my helmet and heard a scraping noise. Turned around and the bike was sliding backwards. The kickstand cut a trench a foot long (30 centimeters for those on the fucking metric system). It started to tip so I lunged at it and grabbed it just before the point of no return. Won't do that again.

A bight is a chunk of rope maybe used to hang oneself. Well known to sailors and plastic surgeons.

Sometimes you remind me of my grade three teacher, Mrs Gillespie, big fucking fat slobbish bitch! She was always finding my mistakes and ragging on me too.

I've had the asphalt-melt drop and easy let-down. "Gimme your damn shirt! I cant' hold it any longer!"
I always park it in gear and check the cogs are engaged before visually checking the side-stand is fully-forward now. Always wanted those side-stand "pucks" or plates you keep in your jacket next to earplugs, etc.

Ever pop a hernia lifting onto the center stand and you get that high-side momentary stand-wobble that scares the crap out of you?
