Congrats on the new project. Like most here i am doing my 87 700f2. Just my 2 cents on the build or at least what i am goin to do. I put a cbr600rr subframe and tail on mines. wasnt hard fitting everything up. Just used upper arms from vfr to connect to cbr's subframe. 91-93 F2 Front end with GVE. Still working on that one. Cbr600rr front brakes and master cylinder. Still going back and forth with SSSA. but planning to work with ToeCutter to put 5 gen SSSA. The look is great. I just polished my upper frame. Kept that part simple. As far as bigger engine, i would search for a 86-87 vfr750 engine and put a big bore kit in it. The 800 engine might be to big. the big bore kit will take you to 837cc i think. and you know the vfr750 engine will fit the frame OR just a vfr750 with a factory pro ject kit and 4 in 1 exhaust will take engine to the next level adn will help shed some weight and help carb breathe better. (Thanks Seb), 520 chain conversion. for the fairing, i was going to try an F2 body kit from airtech(looks pretty bad ass with 1 headlight). i have the upper fairing stay just gotta make it fit. or i might just go with stock body since i have so much invested in that already and they dont need that much repair. hhhmmm. If you space out the mods they wont SEEM that expensive, i stopped counting the cost for mines.

    Just GET HER DONE:thumbsup:

i don't believe you'd need a 750 engine, you should be able to put the same big bore kit in the 700 engine

Yup, since the 700 was a de-stroked version, the bore size is the same, just like w/ the older VF's.

It says its only for 94-97 engines. and the cost for it would round out at about $3000 for just the engine work alone. uuuuhhh, thats pushes you WAAAYYY over budget.

    VFR750 94-97 837cc Big Bore Kit Honda VFR750 837cc Big Bore

With all the costs of the project you could buy a 5th gen VFR for 3 grand (link is from craigslist: 1999 HONDA VFR

Daugherty's your man! Go to his web site to find rear shock options for the 700. BTW if you're going to keep buying 20+ yr old bikes (86 vf1000r) you can expect to run into the same types of problems along the way. Intead of spending all that money trying to make the old bikes young, just save your loot and buy something newer to start with.

That's cool but if it were me i find one that was mint or near mint and pretty much leave it alone. The 700 on the other hand when set up properly is lighter, more nimble and just as fast without going to $$ crazy. I've owned my 750 for over 10yrs now and back when i first got it Fox still made shocks for it, pipes and jet kits and fork braces were easier to come by. In reality your 500 would make an excellent backroad weapon, with the proper upgrades because of it's light flickable nature. You get an 86 1000... you'd better start a bodybuilding program cause those bikes are frickin tanks!! I recently saw a guy on a new 08 250 Ninja absolutley smoke a couple of his buddies on an R1 and a R6 in the tight stuff. You could have a field day at the Gap on something like that or your 500.

well the 500 is getting there she got the rear covered i've already have a set of forks with jamie right now and he's working his magic with them and the cbr f2 front it's coming together nicely i knew from the moment i rode the 500 she was a corning machine not fast but nimble, the plans with the 700 arent anything special cause the money is just not here :frown: but suspension is top on the list, and it just so happen i bought a 87 700 header like a year ago for what reason i have no idea but now i have a bike for it to go on! the reasoning behind me wanting a 1000R is simple the are just truely sex that's it just a sexy bike! thanks for the input dan we need to go riding again id like to do a track day with you one day! mybe you can give me a few pointers to help me improve my riding

rc51 forks are the longest out of all the honda inverted frontend. But use the 929 or 954 top tripple clamp. That will give you the longest forks available.

Before going to that drastic measure have you tried using distilled water and water wetter? It helps keep the temperatures down on my bike.

If that doesn't work one idea you could try is to reverse the direction of the fan. I read someone managed to get his bike to run cooler in bumper to bumper traffic through that.

yea distilled water will work the best!! but i do believe i will still go wiht the 1000RR radiator just becouse of its size compared to the 700 small size, but im talking about way down the road untill i even think about it again, me and jamie D talked a little last night and im going to try to fit RC51 forks on the bike its been done on fifth gen VFR's but not second gen's, but it look's like a straight forward mod! ill take some more picture's of my proggres when i get the frame back its still being cleaned i would love to bitch slap who ever rattle can that thing black .
