Wow , dealers are practically giving them away.

Funnily enough, that's exactly what they cost here. - And, no, I'm not kidding.

The VF1200R (non-DCT version) was $25,000 when it was first released, FFS.

My local dealer has the first one they got in, now marked down from $16K to $12K; it still $it$. IMhO, the VFR 1200 is the answer to the question nobody asked! And then to add further insult to one's wallet...no standard baggage. My 2 FJRs and my ST 1300 made fine Sport-touring machines and they were complete. To me a VFR is epitomized my my "new" '91...that is a gr8 size and was a reasonable (new) price. DFO

To me, the failure of the VFR1200 is that it was priced at the level of a K1300S but didn't have all of the standard equipment of the K1300S. - The VFR1200 should have ESA, remote tyre pressure adjustment, cruise control and a larger tank. Either that, or it should be $5000 cheaper than it is.

Agreed, way too much money for what you get and to me....too big to be a VFR. Different name, lower price...maybe then it would have sold. Currently it is a big goose egg on Honda's rep. My local dealer wants to SELL bikes, not have them collect dust while he has to pay flooring. He is not a real happy camper about the VFR 1200! DFO

Well, I also think part of the problem is that the Japanese have been selling their bikes too cheaply for too long, and now the prices are overall trending upwards. - With the decrease in the value of the $US, American motorcycle buyers are finally seeing bikes increase in price to be somewhere in line with what the rest of the world pays for them.

This is not a criticism of America/Americans, BTW. I just mean that the rest of the world has paid through the nose for bikes that were sold cheaply to the US market.

Yup...nothing like my $752.00 Super Hawk, back in 1965. Of course, as I made $96/mo as a young U.S. Marine and paid $52/mo for the bike...darn expensive for me!!! LOL!

To me a $16K motorcycle is simply to much money for a "toy". Now a really nice VFR 750F..... DFO

agreed. they had really ambitious pricing out of the gate. got alot of the early adopters out of the way, people who are going to buy the next vfr just because they have had a loyalty to the bike and the brand. but now they are giving the dealers an invoice reduction to lower the price to what it should be. true the bmw, has alot of standard features that the honda does not, but the same could be said the other way as well. dct, agitated paint, etc.
17k bikes are going 5k off and even more. at 17k - no question, i would get the bmw, but now at 10-11k vs 17 k for the bimmer, it starts to be a close race. not to mention the reliability and the cheap maintanance.

Eh the VFR1200 is ugly to me, it seems like it lost some of its touch, sure its a high tech bike but it doesn't seem to have that character the previous gens have. It turned into a bike more like a appliance instead of a bike, kind of what like the Prius is to a car. Soulless device made to go from point a to point b reliably, something about i dont like. I don't like its look or its technology, still wouldn't buy one if i found one for $7k new.

You gotta be shittin me? $3,000!!!??? I think they are $1200 new here in the US. DOn't you have any US buddies that can buy it and ship it over? Even at $250 for shipping, you're way ahead of the game.

    That's just disgusting.

As I said, the pricing of OEM Honda luggage here is fucking ridiculous.
LOL, when the VF1200R wasn't selling well at the start, Honda dealers were offering "great deals" like "$25000 for the bike + free luggage". Cocks.

You know what, though? - Honda aren't actually the worst offenders when it comes to overcharging for parts! Suzuki has some utterly bullshit prices for things!

Screw the luggage, what would it cost to ship a bike? A couple thousand? I just don't see why anyone would even buy a motorcycle there. Furthermore, it seems really shitty for the buyers since the value of the bike probably crashes when it's used due to the artificial pricing of the new ones.

I've heard the character debate between the ducatis and the original vfrs. Hell , even between ducatis and anything else. Old nortons have character. Seems like character is another name for expensive , unreliable , and an excuse for an inferior product. I totally get your Prius analogy ,except the Prius is slow and pretty boring , while the new vfr is blazing fast. To me , all machines are soulless and I want to get from point a to point b in comfort, speed , reliably and safely . Throw in a bit of fun and thats the perfect motorcycle. I also totally agree with you on the looks. It's growing on me, in person it's way nicer than the magazines or Internet.

The problem with importing a new bike is that there are various taxes/duty charges levied, as well as the costs involved in getting a U.S.-spec bike to comply with Australian Standards.
Also, Honda Australia will not honour any sort of warranty on a bike that wasn't bought in Australia, so if anything goes wrong, you're in for some huge bills.

I still have to see a VFR1200 on the road here in Quebec. To add to all the glitches described, it is considered as a sport bike which means ~1000$ for the license every years instead of ~500$ (here the license includes the person insurance and discriminate on the type of bike).

The Quebec government is smoking some good crack.. VFR750.. sport bike, 1053 plate.. VFR800.. sport-touring, 540 plate.. CBR1100XX (sole reason of existance was to be fastest prod bike).. sprot-touring... I'm not complaining, such nonsense makes owning a VFR affordable for me..

I've yet to see a 1200 as well..
