Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to ya! I suggest that you use the email link at Dan's website - you can shoot him your questions direct and he responds PDQ. Dan Kyle is the only guy in Northern California that I would use. Lindeman has a pretty good reputation and track record, but they mainly only deal with suspension. Dan's place is a one stop shop that does it all, so he's a great guy to get to know. I unexpectedly ended up down in Phoenix, AZ raisin' hell for the last week and just got back tonight ( at least I think I'm back....) so I didn't make it to Monterey on the 26th. I will be headed that way in the next week to ten days, as I'm going on a ride down to Big Sur for 4-5 days with my brother in law. I hope to stop by and see Dan then.

I just wrote Dan an email today, and he called and we spent about 20 minutes talking about suspension. I will be making an appointment with him soon to take my bike down there and have him revalve the forks, and get an Ohlins for the rear. Thanks for the info.

Keep us posted on what you find out and I will do the same.

Good for you man! I'm psyched to hear that you have the hook-up now. It's also a great excuse to go to Monterey, drop your machine at Dan's for some new bling, spend a couple of nights in town, eat some great food and have a couple of drinks, knowing that you're dealing with one of the best. It's a shame that the Blue Fin is closed down now.........................................I'll keep ya posted. Congrats!

Sargent or Corbin seat, have not yet decided which (open to opinions).

    New Bridgestone 022's.

Install the grip heaters I picked up in Japan.

    Thinking of some Pazzo levers.

Maybe a gear indicator, I shouldn't admit this but I have tried to shift to 7th more than once...

And my third set of Vansons ought to be ready in time too. Also a third Arai Corsair, maybe an Edwards 8-star since the others are solids. (You know, if you can't ride fast, at least look good...)

    Freddie's school in the spring.

Shinigami, don't feel like the Lone Ranger on hunting for the elusive 7th Gear. It wouldn't hurt my feelings if they would incorporate a gear indicator some where on the dash.

Shinigami, if interested, I found this website that has the Gear Indicators that are "Plug & Play" for the Honda Interceptor, Year Models 03-07.
They also have the Gear Indicators for older models where you have to solder the wires, etc.

Does anyone know if the Honda heated grips that are an accessory for Gen 6 bikes will work on a Gen 5 bike?

Will do. FWIW, I just read all 63 pages of the diatribe regarding suspension between Max McAllister and Dan that went on in the CBR1000RR user forum in 2006. It was a riot reading some of that stuff, and I learned a lot as well.
Dan is very data-driven, that is apparent. Sure appeals to a Six Sigma Black Belt like me!

Yes. The instructions even show a 5th gen, the fairings are really the only difference between the two, as far as that kit is concerned.

    Winter mods?

I'm going to adjust my mirrors, top off the tires with air, wipe the bike with some Honda polish, lube and check the chain, check oil level, fill with gas and then FLOG IT!

Went on a 250 mile ride today. 100 of those being the sickest twisities in southern AZ. Mods included scrubbing the edges off the tires and letting her breath a little.

Supposed to ride the same road tomorrow, but got some inclement winter weather coming in: 55 degrees and raining.

NOW don't get too mad at me for my sarcasm because the rest of you will be rubbing it our faces in the middle of July and August. Still to hot to even work in the garage.

Actually, my two big mods are sitting in a box in the garage waiting for me to get rnough time to do it. I have racetech springs and gold valves for the front and a penske for the rear. hopefully, I'll get to it soon but since I have been riding to work still I have been waiting to do the mods because I'm afraid it will take me too long to finish them.

Well, I quess my first list of mods remains the same but the bike changes. I just traded in the Red '04 on a brand spanking new '07 RWB. Negotiated with dealer to swap all my mods on the '04 over to the RWB, life is good.

    Hey Reg,

Did you get the Gold Valve Rebound Race or the Standard Gold Valve Rebound Valves?

Did you use the Race Tech Spring Calculator to come up with your spring rate or did you just use what your buddy was using?

With Valves (Fork Gold Valve and Rebound Gold Valve Race), Springs, Fork Oil and the other seals, bushings and copper washer for the damping rod, it looks to be about $600.00 in parts directly from Race Tech. Did you buy direct from Race Tech or did you get them from another location at the "good guy" price?

Sorry to bombard you with questions, but I'm trying to get some additional input as I will be doing the Race Tech fork mods in the near future. BTW - You installing yourself?

Thanks for any input you might provide.

    Ron

hellifiknow now that you ask me. It's been so long since I ordered. Maybe RW knows as he was my middleman or broker if you will.

[/quote] Pretty close to that from a friend of a friend kind of deal...

no sweat. I know the feeling. This is the biggest expenditure I have ever made on a bike I have owned other than buying it. I want to do it mayself. I am a bit nervous, but a couple other members live close to me and they are pretty handy mechanically so I am hoping that we can manage it without ruining Scratch. ;)

You'll be fine man - with the right tools and the Race Tech Video it's not that bad, I just don't have the right tools. I've done the install before on my past offroad racing machines, but I had a pro mechanic with all of the tools. Unfortunately I moved away from Tucson, AZ back here and don't have access anymore. I might have Mach1 Motorsports in Vallejo do mine. I've already had some dealings with the other two centers in my area and I won't get into that here.

I wish they still offered the hard anodizing for the fork sliders and the internals, but I didn't see it listed at the site. I'll probably drop em a note on that when I get ready to pull the trigger.

Good luck with your install and thanks a bunch for getting back to me with your input.

I havent had a VFR since my '86 back in '91 but I'm just getting my '02 VFR this comming week.

    Mods coming once it arrives:
Givi V-35 bags and PLX166 mount (have)
Double Bubble and ST windshields (shipped)
    Heated Grips (have)
Fresh paint (dropped on left side)
    Corbin Seat (shipped)
Custom tank bag (Aluminum) to hold Autocom, radio, Sat radio, GPS/MP3 and radar. (waiting for bike, I'll start a thread once I get going)
Back rest/sissy bar for wife (wait on bike)
Powerlet for tank bag, vest and hard bags (not ordered yet)
    HID's (have)
    CF Hugger (have)

    Done:
    Micron Pipes
    Perelli Corsa 3's

As you can see I'm a bit of a gadget junky so I have a bit of work ahead of me.... As far as the tank bag/box goes, I'll be building it out of sheet aluminum. I'll be putting my plasma/brake/english wheel/tig to good use.

Cant wait to joint the VFR club again!

Ah Aight, well you may know that I just acquired an 86 700 F2. Plans are in the works for a cosmetic triple clamp, handlebar, resevoir makeover for this steel steed, aesthically speaking, I have found some nice finishing touches for this area of the bike. yes you may know already about the grips but Im talkin all new resevoir caps, shiny and new, bar ends, tank bra and shiny new triple clamp nut and stainless or kevlar brake lines  ....gotta do the brakes, Double H rated, 16 tooth sprocket, (front of course), DID X Ring 530 chain filter and fluid change first though, :frown: Anyhow I am going to get some before shots of the bike and post them, then unveil this beast to you all when I am done, thinking complete by mid -April.
