OK, time for a BZ Soapbox.

Its true that in some States the MSF Class is 300 clams. People can baulk at the price but some perspective should be brought into view.

First, KC-10FE nailed it. People should go through the class first to even see if they like motorcycling. Every year I see MANY participants in class who have already bought a brand new bike (from 25,000 dollar Harley’s to GSXR 1000’s) and they either completely suck and can’t figure out how to ride their first time through, or they park the bike beside me on exercise two and say: “This is not for me”, or they are asking for advise on how to recoup their losses when they sell their brand new bike (with no miles) so they can go buy a Ninja 250 or Suzuki 500. Why? because they realize they had a hard time

Now had these same people just paid the money and went through the class they would have saved way more in time, money and headaches and known if motorcycling was even for them. But no, have to do the American thing and since they have previous experience (they had a mini-bike when they were 8 years old) they are going to ace the class.

If I had an airplane parked outside and said “hey, take it for a spin”. People with no experience would say “what are you nuts”? But toss a motorcycle out there and they climb on no problems.

Lastly, I am completely baffled by the fact people will spend up to 1,000 dollars on an exhaust system for their motorcycle (which in today’s day and age of bikes doesn’t give someone THAT much power gain) But when you bring up the cost of a track day at 200 bucks, MSF classes at 300 to 25 bucks, Keith Code school at 450 to 650, they say “man, that’s expensive! I can’t afford that!”

Are you fucking kidding me? All the cash people spend on do-dad’s that don’t do shit but make their bike ‘look and sound’ cool and they won’t spend the cash on becoming a better rider?

For me, I only get better through training. I’m just one of those people. But I think the reality is most of us HAVE to learn by being trained by others. I had to spend 400 bucks to be taught how to ‘hang off’ a motorcycle correctly. To date, that is the best money I’ve ever spent on motorcycle modification; myself.

This is not aimed at you Meatloaf, your response inspired me to write the above.

TOE said he was picking that up for you.

Great bike for sure Cundalini. I got a good friend into riding and when we went bike shopping I forced him to get a GS that was on the sales floor.

    He thanked me later.

I got to keep it for a month (I did some maintence for him) and I had a blast on that bike. When he sold it two years later it was hard not to snatch it up form him.

    Mudguts will enjoy for sure.

I'll never forget my first track day I ever did; a guy had a GS500 in B-group wiyh us and he was shaming other riders on much faster equipment (my self included). Dude would carry some nice cornerspeed.

    Peace,

    BZ
