yeah be safe about it nothing is worth getting hurt! Does the CBR have a slip on? I had a Vance and Hines on my 91 and it was rejetted, it had tons of pull above 6000 rpms but a huge hole between 3-4000K, the problem always was that to launch it well you would have to rev to at least 5K but a 600lbs on a stock clutch tends to hate that so it was never very fast off the line. If he has a stock exhaust you can add another 25lbs on to the total weight and drop 10-15hp. If its a stock setup you really have a chance in a quarter mile race, reaction time and a good launch can make all the difference.

I don't know.... Hurricanes were fast for the time when they were new. They were long and low so they are easier to launch but lets not confuse this with a modern sportbike. Its heavy and by todays standards not even close to a modern literbike. A Blackbird would destroy it. Now a VFR is about as fast as a modern 600, actually more like a 1998-2003 600. Not to say thats not fast but it should be close. Its gonna come down to the rider. Whoever can launch hardest and shift at the right time is gonna win. If you don't do that pretty often and do it comfortably the bike won't make up for it. I wouldn't even race.... its not worth it and if you break your bike or yourself this will all seem pretty stupid in the end. If you must race, take it to the track.

Just be safe with this guy and while I don't know much about the older 1000cc Hurricanes, my 07 VFR wouldn't stand a chance against my bone stock '04CBR1KRR (which I just sold by the way). That thing had it all - TREMENDOUS top end and very strong low end torque...I'm thinking a 1000cc engine should easily walk your VFR - remember, the VFR is not meant to be a drag bike...perhaps you should ask him to go on a 500 + mile trip and then see who comes in 1st:wink:

Believe or not, the weekend before the event the hurricane started knocking...when I showed up ready...he said I would have to wait until he gets it running "gooder" than it currently is...SOOO no race...weeks later and I am still waiting on it.....For the record, I like to think the old Hurricane politely stepped down to a younger breed of Honda...

Bummer, would have been interesting to see...IMO, if his bike were running well, you would have a tough time beating him any way you slice it. But then I'm no expert. Besides, like its been said, challenge him to a real ride/race...say 500 miles or so!

I think its a good thing because I had a 91 CBR1000F and it was definately faster than my 07 RWB I think you would have got your feelings hurt after that race.
