    G5 go faster mods

Everyone seems to love the G5 VFR. What is typically done to improve acceleration? Does a slip on help at all? Air filter? sproket changes? Full system? PCII?

    Thanks
    David:smile:

Sorry to piss in anyone's cornflakes.

If you have ridden a VFR and think that it's underpowered, you don't know how to ride.

I doubt if 5% of the folks on this forum can ride at 10/10ths. I know that I can't.

I don't have a PC II so I can't comment on whether it actually works or not. An aftermarket exhaust isn't really going to give much power. It's mostly for looks, sound & a side order of weight loss. If you really want to get more acceleration out of a 5th Gen VFR, go down 1 tooth on the front & up 2 on the back. My riding bud who HAD (sold it for the divorce...) a 6th Gen did this and it made a huge improvement to off the line acceleration. The down side would be loss of top speed. Who cares about that? No one should since instead of going 150, the bike will now "only" go 140. Big deal. When I replace my chain this winter, that's what I'm doing.

    KC-10 FE out...

Staintunes and the best built and sound great, although haven't heard a VFR with an aftermarket end Can that made the V4 Growl sound anything but good, mine is an ARROW Carbon which sounds great in the lower and Mid rev's but think Staintunes sound better at higher Rev's...

A PCII won't give you much more HP but may flatten out any flat spots you may have, althought one positive aspect of the Gen 5 Ver 1 ('98-'99) is no Cat or o2 Sensor's so the fueling is smoother although would think PCII and o2eliminator's on a Gen5 Ver 2 ('00-'01) would be as smooth.

Best Tyres for the Twisties are the Michelin Pilot Powers, they are just the best, added bonus is they last well for a Sports tyre.

I have the Two Bros exhaust and Conti Road attacks. My bike sounds awesome, sticks to the twisties and rolls smooth on the highway. Power....I am still learning how to utilize it every time I ride this beast!

I sold a 2005 600zzr and bought the 2006 vfr800abs . I do not have a car so I ride all year in all weather. abs is good. My legs felt very crampted on the 600 the sprint came with bags the vfr bags cost 1400 dollars more.the power is the same but the 600 was lighter . a good thing in the twistes but feels nervous on the open road wind and blew the 600 all over for dailey commuting the vfr works well for me

you know every time I read one of these threads where we all talk about the different reasons we like the vfr and what generation we like, etc, it makes me want to buy an extra 5th gen with low miles so that if this one ever wears out or gets hurt, I can have another. I, like many others on here, don't like anything else on the market well enough to get rid of the VFR. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE motorcycles, and given my 'druthers, I'd have as many as possible. I just hope that at least one of them is always a 5th gen VFR.

I went from an 88 CBR1000 to a 94 VFR (4th gens RULE!) and I can push it around just fine. I've had it to 155 and can ride it all day; plus I usually don't get a second glance from the cops. Slabbin it or in the twisties, doesn't matter; the VFR handles it all.

I've got a 2Bros SS/CF full system on it and it doesn't sound like a 911, it sounds like a NASCAR stock car. Probably needs a repack but I think I'll pass on that, it just sounds too cool.

Some how I knew when I saw this tread ... there would be mooocho replies. I traded in a Kaw Z750S for my 05. The kaw has 111 hp at the crank and weights 40 lbs less, a +. The seat sucks big time. Around town and the twisties it was great up to about 60mph. At 70+ I began to feel like a kite. Some complained about vibration ... I didn't find that a problem. It did need high test (if that matters). I had great fun on it. But ... one day I spotted the 05 vfr in silver and that was that. There is no comparo ... they are two different animals. I think if you're going to do any crusing on the freeway, forget the Kaw; touring, forget the Kaw; around town and a few twisties ... it's great. Of course, this is personal and also depends on how much you weight, how long your legs and arms are, etc. I'm 150 lbs and 5'8" ... the vfr fits me like a glove. Power!? maybe two up, but then I have to ride much smoother and more conservatively when doing two up, so I don't see a problem there. Solo, even with 15lbs in each bag, I see no difference ... bags seem almost a non event. A bit wordy, huh!? Needless to say, on this forum they kind of lean toward the vfr ... duh. :)

I sure like my 02 VFR but if had to commute 100+ miles every day I'd seriously consider the FJR1300. You're talking 2000 miles per month and a bigger (heavier) bike with better wind protection might be in order. That being said I can say I've put in a few 800+ mile days and the bike's done very well.

    VFRMike.
