I'm South African too, grew up in Pretoria, moved to Texas about 10 years ago. Easier to get more toys here!:

A good way to meet fellow south africans is to post a group ride. However from what I hear about the crime in africa you might want to coordinate a weapons check

Yeah, VFR's seem pretty rare here. Quite a few 400's around though.

My family still lives in Cape Town and they will tell you that the crime is significant, but nowhere near as bad as the the average foreigner believes it to be. From what I understand, there are places in the US like downtown Detroit after midnight that are more dangerous than anywhere in SA. I think the media loves to sensationalize. South Africa is one of the most fantastic places you could ever visit and I'd highly recommend it to anybody who ever gets the chance.

Both my studio & apartment is in the CBD. So I very seldom venture out to the nothern suburbs unless I'm going to some family which all stay in Edgemead. Otherwise I prefer rides out the southern suburbs way. They prettier.

    Straighten passes

Don’t worry I'm sure you can get your passport stamped when you do go behind the boreworse curtain. The best rides are out to rooielse, hermanus, villiersdorp, grabow, ceres, greyton and worcester. You get to ride the best passes in the country last time I counted we have about 14 passes within a 400km radius. Southern suburbs have too many traffic cops and yuppie bikers for my liking. Not many clubs do the southern suburbs routes except for maybe yuppie idlers, scooter clubs, think bike and Harley clubs. When we go out its +- 300km runs to try and straighten up the passes. I'll drop you line when we do the next one and well get the moffie strips off your tyres.

It's taken you almost 30yrs to join up? Just kidding, welcome aboard. Would be interesting to hear your experiences with the bike over such a long period of ownership.
