question for ya. are the passage ways through the carb called circuts?

and are they interconnected? or each jet passage separated from the rest.

To measure the float height, you tip the carb until the metal tang on the float barely touches the pin on the back of the float needle.

On well-used needles, the spring under the pin can be weak and just the weight of the float can depress the pin.

On new needles, the spring under the pin is stronger and the weight of the float may not depress the spring.

For either circumstance, you want to set the float height with the tang touching - but not depressing - the pin.

For carb tuning and what fuel circuit is affected by throttle position see the following links:

Wow!!! Thanks for the help Supervfr... Still reading through all the links.

I thought I knew just about everything on carbs, but these CV type carbs are tricky to diagnose.
    Nothing beats Sohc-4 carbs.....LOL

Also, as an update, I took the bike out today and decided to run some tests.....

Test 1! Check the CV carbs diagrams....Results found here.

YouTube - Honda VF500F Carb work

Test 2! Cover half of the entrance of the intake with tape.

Test 3! Found out that the big o-ring gasket was missing from the upper cover on the air box (stupid PO) Fixed that with RTV Gasket maker. The best Autozone sells!!

    Results.... The bike ran great!!
Granted, the bike did stagger the very first time going past 5k rpm and this was at 1/3 throttle.
Maybe I cleared something through....but I doubt it!!

Each time I cracked the throttle I started at 3.5k - 4k rpm for a load on the bike.

Each time I cracked the throttle from these roll-ons was at about 1/3 to 1/2 position.

So, It is definitely a fuel problem.

And more good news upon that... 50F degree weather for the rest of the week, here in Ohio. Yipppeeee!!!

More news to come and I appreciate everyone's patience with me,

    LL
