Go by fit not by brand and definitely don't buy without trying it in a shop. even if you later buy the same model online, as all the high end helmets are sort of hand made, the fit might not be as good as the one you tried in the shop. my 0.02 TG
I have no issue with your statement save for the fact that you claim Arai's are the "lightest helmet out there at this quality". This is 100% FALSE. In fact, Arai's are known for being a heavy helmet. Shoei, AGV, Suomy, Bell, Akuma, etc... Pretty much every full face race helmet made is lighter that the equivalent Arai. I am by no means an Arai hater since I've been wearing them for 20 years. The simple fact is they ARE NOT light helmets. To support my statement, I submit the following for your reading enjoyment: Motorcycle Helmet Weights - webBikeWorld I will also say this to everyone, it NEVER, EVER matters what name is on the helmet. It ONLY matters that the helmet fits you correctly & you wear it. I bought a Shoei X-11 attempting to save some cash since the Arai I wear is now around the $900 mark. I wore one in the dealer for about 25 minutes. I thought I was set. I bought one thinking I got a great deal. I've worn it 4 times. It will be on Craigs List this weekend. Why? It gives me painful hot spots about 1 hour into a ride. These hot spots get progressively worse to the point that I need to stop & take the helmet off to give myself a break. So, I bought a supposedly "Better" helmet for a "Better" price & it didn't do me a bit of good. If anyone wears the Shoei X-11 in size large, give me a PM & I sell you one for a BIG discount. It looks like this: http://stores.sportbiketrackgear.com/Detail.bok?no=447 Buy the helmet that fits your dome each time, every time. KC-10 FE out... lane: :usa2:
I've been riding for 46 years and owned many different brands of helmets. Overall, I choose Shoei. It fits me most comfortably, ventilates well, and is rock steady at 165mph. Some thought and testing go into their manufacture.
