What do people say to you?

The comments I've gotten so far on my 4th gen re-do have been mostly "Nice bike!"

Had two 30-ish guys offer same, then one added how he never sees guys my age "on bikes like these..." (Sporty stuff I assume.) "...they're usually on Harleys."

Told him I have a cruiser too, he says "Really?!"

Now, in terms of commentary there's a real phenomenon, my modded year 2000 Vulcan.


Some highlights:

- "You rode all the way from RI on that?!" (Guess only Gold Wings can travel...?)
- A local guy circa 2001: "Nice job you did on that, what year is it?" Me: "2000." Him: "Really?!"
(Guess they both thought it was an old Harley...?)

- Her: "We really like your bike, what is it?" Him: "Tsk, it's a Harley!" Me: "Actually it's a Kawasaki." Him: "Huh?!"

In the 80's I owned the original Interceptor, '83 V45 with a full body Pichler fairing I mounted on it... got lots of "What's that?!"

The vast majority of people think in terms of 'absolutes', either it is or it isn't, it's hot or it's cold.

V-twin cruiser, "It's a Harley."
Red, SSSA, "It's a Ducati."
Old guys on bikes, "They're not real riders, sporty types, young and visceral... just over the hill posers trying to pretend otherwise."

That last is sometimes very true, have met several of these clueless 'late bloomers'... but it is a free country after all, and they do say ignorance is bliss... ? :noidea:

 

I've had the Ducati one, but most people in SA can't believe its 15 yrs old.

Usually nobody knows what it is even when I tell them, however they always seem to like it after I do.

The weirdest one was at the 7-11 the other day. I come out of the store and a guy was walking up the parking lot. He looked homeless with ratty jeans and dirty shirt and like a week old scruff. As he walked by I was putting on my helmet he goes "Nice Interceptor"

I was like, "excuse me?" because I was not sure I heard him right. He said "nice Interceptor, I always liked the VFR 800. Nice bike" Caught me completely off guard. Go to meets and people have no clue, walk out of a 7-11 and some guy you think is homeless knows exactly what it is :crazy:
