Last weekend I decided to have another tinker with my front suspension. I was running a C33 compression stack and rH17 rebound stack with the VTR1000 rebound adjuster, but I was finding that I needed to have the rebound adjuster wound way out otherwise the ride was a bit harsh, and then things just didn't feel as controlled as I'd like.

I suffer(?) from having two bikes to compare back to back, and my fairly similarly equipped VTR1000 has a more controlled action, better damping action without harshness. After some deliberation I decided that my problem was too much high speed compression, and not enough low speed, as well as too much high speed rebound. I made a radical change and decided to move up to 10W oil to increase low speed compression, and then reduced the high speed damping in both directions to C32 and rH15. What do you know, that seems to work really well! To the point where I now think I could do better with the VTR fork as well.

What you did is easily remedied. Don't worry about having your head where it's "warm and dark" as my dear old father would say, we all do it from time to time. I'm kind of getting used to having my ears pop when I pull it out......
Wait until you get old, that's when the fun really starts! :)

My oil system. Buy oil by the gallon, no funnels to get dirty, no drips on driveway, can add small amounts as needed.

That's not cheap for AZ. I pay like $89 for the year. I am getting a new front tire put on.

Wow the pump is only 13 bucks, do you just have the bucket marked so you can see how much the level has changed or is the 60ml per stroke fairly accurate?

The oils filter bracket looks like your standard relocation bracket setup(I've got an extra laying around actually), do you run that just on the off chance dirt gets in during storage? Does it through off the 60ml per stroke of the pump?

Took the VFR out today on a "fact finding" ride to do some exploring. Ended up returning the best mileage I've gotten yet: 50.7 MPG!

Public holiday for us today, so a decent ride was in order, and I ended up covering about 300km. A bit hot and sticky, but otherwise just a fabulous riding day. I explored some new roads today to add to my repertoire, and was glad that I did. Here is my VFR alongside Lake Waikare in the Waikato.

I am really happy with the way my revised front suspension is working, and the CBR600F4 caliper/CBR600RR master cylinder combo is a winner also.

I use the bucket with the site window, not calibrated. Add oil till it starts to appear, then start engine, let it settle down and finish filling to proper level. On the 83 I use the dipstick. After filling bucket first time with $200 worth of oil, I saw some contaminates so I added filter.

Got big orange started after 4 mo.s

Took about 5 minutes of cranking. Had to mess with the choke. It fired, died. Fired, died. Then it ran but wouldn't rev above 3k. Died, ran, died. Reved a bit higher. Then reved properly. Took it for a ride and aired it the fuck out.....

You've shown us pics of your bike. So by "grime" I take you to mean "that layer of dust"?
