That was a very wise decision you made to turn around and go back

I recall back in my Campbell River days very dense fog. I was following another car at slow speeds in a normally well lit city street. It was dark. Suddenly the car seemed to turn at about a 45 degree angle and drive into the ditch. No brakes at all. I stopped and wrote out the accident report for the lady. No charges. She said she just lost the road. I told her that I didn't think the fog was that bad. After arranging here transport away from there, I continued on my way. Couldn't see a fucking thing. I realized before, I was just following her tail lights.

I drove the rest of my way to the complaint I was dispatched to holding my driver's door open, and watching down at the road for the yellow line. Even the on coming traffic could not be seen until they were only about 10 yards ahead of you. Crazy.

BTW. The complaint I was going to was stolen Christmas lights. Back then we did not refuse to go to a call. Thankfully brighter minds came to be in charge and risk management became the way of the day.

That brings back good memories that was part of my Sunday morning loop when I lived in Auckland

I can't wait until we move back there sometime this year
Great roads and great fish an chips at Kaiaua then a quick loop out to Waihi via Whangamata and back through Kawakawa to Auckland via Maraetai and Whitford makes for a Great day ride

And no bloody suicidal kangaroos to jump out in front of you !!!

I did that ride a couple of weeks back; all of the Coromandel Peninsula is sealed these days, and the road from Coromandel town back over the top to the east coast is magic.

Well not today but yesterday, I took the '01 to Chuckwalla for a open session track day with SoCalTrackDays. I do have video but my second camera went belly up on me so I didn't get rear view footage. I did get some get forward view footage but need to edit it down to shrink the file size for uploading. One issue with open session is that the REALLY fast guys get to share the track at the same time as us more "novice" level riders, so these guys come screaming past you at just about every straight on the track. Many of these fast guys are part of Jason Pridmore's STAR school who use this track for teaching and know it like the back of their hand. Being that I wasn't too familiar with the track and was more or less there for practice my than pure speed runs, I took it a little easy. We did have one "incident" where one of Pridmore's guys t-boned a slower rider coming in to a tricky curve (turns 8-9) and that ended the day for them but the high winds and blinding sandy conditions ended the day for everyone by about 2PM. I'm looking at doing more track days this year and hopefully can do this again when the winds aren't so wicked!

Here's the layout of the track as it was run this weekend.

Prepped and ready to get on the track...
