Today, I rode the VFR in a hard rain. Something I usually HATE, but with the heat the past few days I didn't get mad at all when I was caught several mile from home. Plus, she's really clean now!

Hey you guys, i haven't had the pleasure of dumping a rectifier yet, but, in time I'm sure....anyway, may I offer this comment...The other day I replaced the "original" battery on my '06. That hot plastic smell is gone! Maybe some of the issue is just OLD batteries in our bikes and the recharging system as a whole is over taxed. Around 300 miles later... So far, so good. I'm no expert, but maybe battery replacement is a good idea if ya get that smell...Like I said, worked for me.

Hot plastic smell? Check you 3 Pin connector int the leads for the stator to the rectifier. Look for any discoloration due to heat. If not melted, then take apart and thoroughly clean and rough up contacts. I use am emery board trimmed to fit inside female connectors (peel off rough sand paper, only use one side).

Could be part of the cause, but we know the connector is the biggest cause of charging problems, so why not fix it before you cook everything, prevention is the best form of maintenance, not fixing it after the event

Changed the oil on my 2002 sliver vfr vtec with royal purple max cycle 10w-40, added coolant to the overflow reservoir, and gave it a wash afterwards.

Thorough washing first. Then hand polished and good coat of wax. Light polishing compound on wheels to bring back shine and good coat of bike spirits on other black plastic parts. Have not see it look this shiny for long, long time.

Up next, clutch and brake fluid flush and new rear brake pads.

PAIR removed, rear brake switch adjusted after I figured out it wasn't bad bulbs or wiring and the brake lights were always on (new VFR owner).
2 weeks ago - New coolant, thermostat and associated cooling hoses, and replaced all throttle body vacuum lines while I was there for piece of mind, plus EVAP Canister now gone.

I test rode the 2k VFR after a few rounds of quality garage time. installed GTR bars, hung OEM muffler on the TB header, installed LED instrument lamps and took the windscreen to the band saw. The throttle cables are stiff in new routing and will need to be longer. After 4th July road trip will track down new cables.
