So...who is the fairing supplier that you'd recommend?

I bought some 5G parts from Auctmarts and they worked out really well, I sent them a section of my rashed fairing to do a paint match and they nailed it 99.5%. But the paint does seem to flake off if you look at it funny especially around fixing holes, maybe the surface prep may be incorrect, and the 5G parts were compression moulded not injection, so the fit was good but not perfect, but great value.

That was a very good idea copying the RC213V paint scheme, I think the 6G looks better in those colours than the RC. Makes me wonder about recreating some other classic schemes...aside from the cancer stick reference, I do love the Rothmans Honda colours.

WHAT DID I DO?...I totaled it!

Yep, that's right folks, the 5 Gen has been totaled. Long story short, I low sided on the freeway exit and the bike went under the guard rail, destroying the front end completely. The stanchion tubes broke off right under the lower triple clamp. When I came off the freeway, I didn't notice anything in the road and even after it happened I went to take a look and I couldn't see anything that would have caused any slippage. This is my typical off ramp I take to exit the freeway to get home. Lined up the curve like I always do but this time the front end just gave way. As luck would also have it, I had my cameras off, so no way to review what happed. When I stopped for gas I unplugged the cameras, as the journey back was about a 100 miles of slab riding. The irony is that I rode all the way to Borrego Springs did all the fun and twisty roads, even dodged sand in the corners, it wasn't until I was 5 miles from home that the accident happened. I guess that's the bright side, that and that I was ATGATT! Though it looks like I'll need a new pair of gloves, boots, and a new helmet!

Although there was no one directly behind me when i went down, there were a few people getting off the freeway only a few seconds later, most stopped to check on me and one guy actually got out and helped me pull the bike out from under the guard rail. I think it was a lady called the fire department and/or the CHP as both showed up. The FD guys were cool and pretty much were asking me question about the bike, how often I ride, do I always wear gear, etc. Same with the CHP officer, he mentioned that this just happened to his brother and was totally cool. Neither the FD or CHP took any of my info. The FD just asked a few times if I was OK and if I wanted them to examine me or take me to the hospital. I declined both as other than the scratched leathers and slight sore knee I felt fine. Still do a few hours later, although I need to ice my knee, it started to swell a bit.

Here's some pics, as I know you all love pics. Caution, these are a bit graphic

Judging by the picture with your header in it, your headstock looks like it may be trashed. Those forks are at a crazy angle.

Thanks for the concern everyone. It feels good to know so many fellow riders care for one another. My post was not just a memorium for the event but a reminder to everyone that you need to wear the gear and that this can happen at any time to anyone of us.

To be honest, after the crash, I laughed out loud. At lunch we were talking about a couple of crashes that a few of our friends had recently experienced. One was identical to mine, simple freeway exit, lean into the curve and down he went. The end of our lunch conversation was "It could happen any of us and sometimes we won't even know what the cause was."

The CHP officer and I looked over the road and we didn't see anything obvious so we couldn't say for sure what the deal was. The tires are not "brand new" but fairly new, they have at least a few hundred miles, plus a track day on them.

Sure! Post this up here and not on the "You Dropped it how many times" thread. I'm hurt!

My oath 00TV! I take it you came off the bike before it hit the rail? Thank God you wear ATGATT. It could have been so much worse for sure. Super happy to hear you come out of is for the most part fine. But I have to agree in that you at least need to get into the doc to have things checked out.

I hope you are covered insurance wise for this so you can get another ride and carry on. Didn't you just order up some parts from Joey?

    Take care.

Right now the knee has been iced and swelling has gone down. No other aches, pains or otherwise feeling roughed up but if tomorrow if I feel differently I may go get checked out. According to the AAA (my insurer), looks like I'll be getting an adjuster to come by and scope out the damage.

Looking at the damage myself, the front end is pretty much toast, the radiators look like they have some damage and the front subframe is most likely tweaked. For sure this bike would be considered totaled. If the frame is still good and the engine looks to be unscathed, I would like to rebuild it.

I did buy a gas tank and front fender from Joey a while a back and ironically the tank doesn't look like it was even touched! Front fender...that's gone!
