That's making me feel very virtuous about having cut out and soldered my 3P connector a month back!

There should be a trail of spilled electrons all over the road behind your bike. Using my mystical powers, I can you fitting a voltmeter in the near future Donovan.

He probably saw the signs and decided to get rid of it before it completely died.

Yes, a voltmeter is in my future!

I was looking for it. The bike died on me while I was on my way to work the other day. :-(

However back on topic, lol, fitted battery to VFR, & left on optimate charger overnight. We are having a real heatwave at present so really enjoying the RVF especially now the brakes work as they should....

My new fork springs arrived yesterday, 0.90 kg/mm from Racetech, but sized to suit the 43mm CBR600F4 forks that I'm now running. I had temporarily re-used the 0.90 springs that I had in my 41mm VTR1000 forks, but knew the spacers were a bit long and over-preloaded, and while this functioned perfectly well, I was concerned about the narrower springs distorting and wearing the fork tubes. I was able to do the spring swap with the forks in place, just by jacking the front end off the ground, unscrewing the caps and then lifting the wheel assembly to compress the forks and expose the top of the damper rod, spacers and spring. I ended up needing spacers of 73mm, cut from the alloy tube that Racetech supplied. Looking forward to a test ride this weekend.

Hmm, is 0.90kg/mm considered stiff? how come the rear spring on most bikes are between 12 and 15 kg/mm when the forks are not even 1 kg/mm on some?

The stock springs are around 0.6 or 0.7 so 0.9 is stiffer than stock, but very good for road use.

Shock springs are very different, there's only one vs two forks, and the linkage means less travel/more leverage, so you can't really compare them.

Interesting info. I hadn't thought of all the leverage a swingarm imposes on a frame, you're effectively suspending the chassis from 15 inches or so out on a lever.

Anyway, today I did nothing to my bike, but I got these in the mail: FullSizeRender.jpg

And I already picked up this F4i shock for $40 shipped on fleaBay :) IMG_3695.jpg

The wheels were a steal, and though they were taken off a race bike, they seem to be in nice physical shape. They will be painted gold over the winter. The shock will be modified and installed by me, and the forks will be rebuilt with emulators and 0.85kg/mm springs.

This would be Palomar S6. The lead rider is member OCLandspeeder, he just had his suspension updated by DMr and wanted to test it out. The rider behind me on the 5 Gen is member SFDownhill and yours truly doing the filming. There were two other VFR riders with us but they were taking very easy. The husband had just bought a 2002 the day before and it had some old tires on it (Original Pilot Road tires, not 2's, not 3's , not 4's just Road!).

If you notice the first part of the video appears to be at a faster pace, that's because SF and I got separated from OC and Repsol way back on the straight road leading to the mountain and we had to play "catch up". Once we caught up to them on the mountain we stuck in formation. The two riders that passed our group are a pair locals who do up and down runs on the mountain. They're pretty fast guys as they know that road really well. Although I think we could have matched their pace as they weren't too far in front of us, as you'll see them just making a left as we get to the top of the road. OC chose to ride his own ride and keep his pace/rhythm.

Thanks for the fun! I noticed you were running wide at the apex a bunch of times. Was that a choice or was it the bike?

Are you referring to the rider in rear camera view? Or the based on the front camera's POV?

The front camera is mounted to the left front fairing and the rear camera is on top of the tail fairing. The front is a GoPro Hero2, the rear cammera is an Innov C3 "Snake" camera. This is the same setup I had when I took the R3 videos. Although I did change the rear camera body location and thus there is more wind noise now so I'll be modding that soon. No need to disrupt that beautiful V4 growl!

Front camera mounting location but I have changed the mounting ball and Ram Mount arm since this photo was taken.
