Gave her a wash. Because it lives inside and doesn't get ridden in the rain, I'm ashamed to say that washes are far too rare an occurence.

I read my 83 service manual, and engine number is stamped on the right side of the upper crankcase. Photo shows it under a clamp for a cable, in front of rear exhaust port, below VIN tag on frame. Hope the 86 is the same.

I uncovered her yesterday and took her for a spin. She has been covered for a month or so while it rained and I worked out some kinks in my M6. Hopefully tomorrow will be about putting on a new chain and sprockets and taking a ride around the valley. Yeah it's the Superbowl, but I have no interest in watching either team win.

New chain & sprockets, repacked the rear hub bearing, rebuilt the clutch slave and master, swapped oil pans, header wrapped the rear header pipes, rotated the linkage triangles, put the newly painted heat shield back on and now working on fixing the ignition switch and adjusting the headlights.

I forgot to mention that a few days ago, I swapped the front brake pads on the front rotors. The left side was worm more than the right side, due to the whole linked brake thing and I had a brake squeal on light pressure stopping. Also, my brakes were kind of grabbing on light pressure as well. I haven't done anything to a brake caliper in a long time, and I am unable to bleed the brakes on this hose heavy beast, so I took a small stainless steel wire brush and cleaned up the caliper pistons as best I could get to them. There was a black residue on the pistons and I got off as much as I could get to. It's better now than it was and no squeal. I figure by doing this, I should be able to extend the life of my pads, instead of the linked side getting the bulk of the wear.

^ I have had to buy a donor caliper in the past to scavenge a piston or two. Its from neglect and not riding.

You could try the "shoe-shine" method for cleaning up those stuborn stains, simply use a piece of Scotchbrite cut into a strip (I use red or bagged oot green.) and simply go back and forth on sed corrosion offence. You could use 800 to 1000 or so emory paper, worse comes to worse, you have to take the caliper off and use the system to force them oot and then you could do a "proper" overhaul of your brake system. Linked/ABS brakes are a pita imho, I have an air assisted MityVac machine for this stuff which makes quick work of problems of brake/clutch work. Cheers

I fired it up on Saturday, did a battery voltage check and charging system check in preparation for a possible new battery. 13V at terminals right after the float charger was taken off, 14.0-14.1V when the bike was running and 12.8V after the battery sat for a day with no charger.

I apologized quietly for dragging at her cover whilst shovelling snow. Then I made a mental note to clean out the shed and put her away inside.

    What's up brother?
No snow this winter it's awesome here in Utah.
I've been riding in December and January like never before.

Nothing on the VFR yet. It's one of those.... I'm trying to sell it but deep down I'm hoping not to... We'll see. Maybe I'm asking for too much?

I hope all is well with you...

I installed a Power Commander 3 I bought on this board for $150. Holy Fuck what a great mod! I have no license plate or insurance but I just had to take it around the block for a rip and it did not disappoint. Ever do that when you do something to a bike that you're dying to check out regardless of current legality, so you just go and hope you don't see a cop? It's all part of being a rebel cycle slut from hell livin on the edge.
