I soda blast the whole engine. I buy rubber plugs for every orfice. Removes everything and leaves an unmarked, bare aluminum surface. I pressure wash with an oxy cleaner to wash and neutralize the soda.

It gives it a light texture that the finishes really like to adhere to. Undetectable after the first coat of paint.

Nice! I know about soda, and if I was doing whole engines, that would be my choice as well.

    Oh dang, that looks good!
I have never done an entire engine, only side cases, levers, brackets, etc. I tried soda blast in the beginning but my wife and I agreed we didn’t want the yard ton be cocaine field.

Agreed, it does look like a drug deal gone bad. It will also neutralize your soil. Cleans up nicely in my parking lot though. Here’s the finished product. 20250723_152006.jpeg

Hey don’t tell the doctor…swapped all the better pieces on each side of the passenger rails. Also swapped front foot mounts and lubed the rear brake arm. Small things. I had rusted rails, crushed foot rubber feelers, bent brake lever and no movement on the rear brake arm. image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg
