if you want to bullet proof the bike, do the following.

get a mosfet rr from roadstercycles.com
get a voltmeter installed on the bike
    get a vfrness from wiremybike.com
replace that 30 amp main fuse with a heavy duty inline marine grade fuse
direct solder the rr directly to the stator. that connection burns up and fails too.
do the blue connection ground wire fix.
wire the rr straight to the battery with a fuse in between.

that looks like water damage or maybe salt got it the connectors-dielectric grease does help-it looks like I will install a volt meter-the bike I bought was stored in a heated room ,but it has the orginal battery-first thing I fix is a new battery and whip out the grease too-and hook up a battery tender-I will call Honda and check on the recall and ask them if the 06 is actually different from the 05. A lot of bikes have the same problems-! Salt would really screw up wiring-connectors-perhaps tape up the wires better:mech::scooter:

Candy Red thanks for the info. I now know what to look for and where. What an amazing daisy chain. If you don't find all the bad spots or miss the start of the event, it works like cancer, it just grows and becomes worse.

I thought I was exempt because I had an '07. I guess Not! This winter will provide time for a HUGE electrical inspection.

    Thanks Again!

It looks like a volt gauge is something that must be added to any VFR:crazy: Just like a air/fuel gauge is on my srt-4 turbo neon-worlds fastest 4 piston:croc: car.

A lot of bikes have cheapo wires and connectors. Actually the vfr has a big power supply at al most 500 watts and excellent high power lamps-just takes a lot of power to keep things running. A al ready bought a new high power battery with 250cca-I don't know what the stock battery has, but I bet its not 250cca. My old r6 yanaha had weak lights due to not enough power. I don't think this is that hard to fix, a volt meter is cheap and easy to add.

I noticed that too and the last fuel bar is flashing. Never knew it "flashed", haven't let the fuel get that low.
So, about how much fuel is left in the tank when the last bar starts flashing??

Perhaps they just like to fix bikes and rarely ride them, the only safe bike is one on bike stands:whoo:

If memory serves me correctly, last bar flashes when you have used 4.9 gallons and tank holds 5.8 gallons leaving 9/10th's of a gallon. So as Candy Red said about a gallon left. 25 more miles once it starts flashing and you should be safe!

I thought that the flashing light meant there was 1.1 gal left in the tank.

Most of those failures are from not cleaning the connectors and applying dielectric grease to the connector. Think 1970's ford cars n trucks. Basically the same problem.

Honda did make changes between 02/05 and the 06/09 6th gen. Biggest change is that the r/r output is a mosfet setup. Just the rectifiers are the same. The wiring is also heavier where needed but the connectors are the same (should have been bigger).

A battery can cause loss of a r/r and that can kill a stator. Its a vicious chain reaction. As for low voltage. Ignore the fsm, thats a guideline. A fully charged battery only shows 13.2 or better immediately after charge. Take it off charge for 30mins and come back, it will be 12.8 ish which is normal. Come back 30mins from then and youll see a fully charged battery around 12.6 but ive seen them down to 12.2 and have no issues. But all this means nothing as voltage alone can not tell how good a battery is.

My 2007 charging system failed at 25,000 miles in 2010 (The bike was electrically stock and I had not takin apart any connections or applied any dielectric grease yet). The 2006 and up Vfr definitely did not come with MOSFET rr's. The cbr's did get MOSFET rr's around that time though.
