No Randy - your perspective is sadly very accurate.

I suspect I am not the only VFRW participant who quickly opted out of FB and has chosen to never join the FB VFR site. Put simply life goes on without Meta entanglements.

If people really need help with their VFR hopefully someone on FB will suggest they try this site (or previously VFRD) as the best place to seek it.

Sadly we have an increasingly APP centric generation and sadly this brave new world has major dangers.

It only takes one person to post something anywhere on the web for it so somehow gain "legitimacy" even if it is totally nonsense. Then FB Meta (and AI systems in general) pile in as the more outrageous the claim the more these leeches can grow fat by trawling for anything which seems remotely related to something posted on the web - and then enticing you with endless click bait links (earning more revenue for them) even if the information provided is total carp.

At least people on this site are happy to politely correct or indeed call out nonsense.

Sorry the sooner FB and its likes are consigned to a virtual refuse tip the better.

Meantime at least this site continues to deliver for VFR owners around the world - but it still needs users to chip in from time to time, to keeping it from following VFRD into oblivion.

I agree Randy, this is better than that "scoccer-mom social media" platform.

 

When I am on FB, I tend to waste massive amounts of time paging through the "click bait" and when i come across something i'm interested in i have to jump through an additional hoop or two in otder to read all of the replies! It's irritating to me. So, I am one of those who avoids it as much as possible.

 

It looks like the VFRD site certificate has been updated so it's now accessible without having to click through warnings. However, reading through HispanicSlammers original post there may still be stuff to do to keep the site operating long term. THTanner is waiting on contact from HS to take this forward if Miguel is willing. Fingers crossed.
