Scott, if there was no recent maintenance that could have caused a problem, I am wondering if a rodent nested inside the airbox, and the bike is starved for air.

Beautiful bike. That red is spectacular.

What is the purple tag by the left passenger foot peg?

Ok so the air box is fine but whatever the knocking noise is its whats causing the problem just tried to ride it and cant its like the whole thing locks up and just dies and when you get moving its fighting you and the exhaust smells like raw fuel like the fuel cant burn properly cause its fighting its self to keep running and when its in neutral and rev it a bit it cuts out and dies

The fuel is washing all the oil off of the cylinder walls, thus the engine should not be turned on again. Have it towed.

You should send some oil off for an oil analysis. An analysis of the metal in the oil will tell if any wear was done, and which specific components were worn. If the wear is bad, you may make different decisions regarding the repairs. I do not want to scare you, but there is the possibility that major wear occurred. You need to find this out before you begin to pay for repair labor for the known issues.

Why would a thief spend money on gas just out of spite/frustration?

To me, why would someone be a thief? There is no reasonable explanation for the things some people do.

    This is a crazy story!

    Uhh...for financial gain.
And there is none in vandalism (even less so in giving away gasoline, while risking being caught), which is why I don't think it was a would-be thief. More likely a disgruntled neighbor, or a problem with the bike itself.

Most thieves will live a much poorer life than working a steady legitimate job. Even putting all cash aside, how many camcorders does one have to resell in order to provide the most basic employer-matched healthcare? So overall thievery is a loss, not a gain.
