that's the whole point here-its slower than a v4 800 and really doesn't do anything better than a slightly modded 800 with a sargent and helibars. save your dough add some Pr4 tires to a 800-it will do everything better. If I had a choice of a 2015 800 v4 or a 1200x. wouldn't have to think at all which is better.

180 hp mst-r is slower than a vfr? They had a demo day at riders hill in dahlonega and I can assure you motus is a lot more powerful than any vfr, not to mention it has over 10 years of motorcycle advances in engineering. In all aspects, cost aside it's a better motorcycle

    Hi jayzonk,

There will be some development costs, sure, but if you look at the fundamentals, the 1200 V4 with shaft drive is a more complex bike with a lot more moving parts. There's also likely to be some differences in the suspension, brakes and electrickery packages too. So a 4k$ difference isn't actually that surprising to me. Then there's the marketing which is basically where they work out who their target market is and how much the market will be prepared to pay, and how many units they expect to sell so the final price does not necessarily have any relationship to how much the product actually cost to produce. They will basically be aiming to make the 1200X look like a good deal vs a KTM or BMW as they are trying to break into that market, but those bikes are also quite pricey so they have some room to move. The AT is perhaps trying to be not too much more expensive than the big trail bikes, which are more basic and cheaper but lack the on road performance and comfort of the adventure bikes which in turn are perhaps a bit of a compromise off road.

The hard thing for Honda is that the end users of the bikes aren't always that realistic about what they are actually going to do on it either.

Same here. It's all about the money for me. I want to hit the road more so I will need funds to pay for my trips. I gotta ride my 800 until it craters and that could be quite a while.

I like the Africa Twin. I just wish they had brought it back much, much sooner.

I might be riding that now instead of an F800GS.

I get that, but with all the interests in this model, figured it wouldn't hurt to show it's looking for real.

I think there were a bunch of African twins in the last Dakar. I need to check that out.

More of the bikes that the factories say/imply are not going to be available to _________.

Then, as if by magic... SHAZAM! The magic beans from the bean counters begin to sprout, the levers get pumped, the Vroom-vrooms get tuned and we go on to the next bunch of bikes that are gonna be unobtanium for a few months.
