There are a LOT more failures at the O ring than the nut. I posted the photos one of the other members took with calipers on an oem filter and the K&N. They are making the housing the wrong size and the O ring gets a pinch in it and leaks. This is with hand tightening not over tightening. I have had them fail on the VFR and my CBR 1000 and seen many failures. My 3-4 emails with them did no good other than they did send me a new filter that got shit canned right away.

Orings can be fragile especially if not lubed. Dry they can stretch and tear. If ya wanna see a shitload of Orings go to the National O Ring site" or for a really big one the 40 footer on the Chamber A door SESL NASA MSC.

torqueing down on a dry Oring especially one of unknown origin can cause all sorts of problems.

Used OEMs on the VFR until switching to the Scotts. Never a problem with either.

Maybe the dynamic duo will grace us with the wwww&H of who installed the leaky one instead of moralizing and relying on Psych 101 that sometimes works on the less informed.

OMG I just had a thought!! Can we blame it on the oil? ;)

In a recent study, it was found that OEM filters are made in North Korea and that oil is made from all manner of dead things.
