When I was 18 years old I had balls the size of grapefruit and the brain the size of a pea. I am now 60 and glad to report my brain has grown but, sad to say, my balls have shrunk..... That being said I had my 2007 RWB up to 124 mph last week on a trip to the North Shore of Lake Superior. Fully loaded factory bags and full attgat. Ran out of room in the middle of 5th. gear. She had a lot more power left and one more gear to go but acceleration was starting to slow.
124 mph varified on my Garmin Zumo 220 GPS. Didn't think this was a good idea 600 miles away from home.

    Well let's see:

    1985 VF750F (sig pic)

Earth spins east to west at around 770 mph where I lived at the time.

The day I tried it out I was traveling east and the earth was only moving past at about 645 mph that day....(yeah I know, it doesn't quite work that way but it makes for entertaining reading!)

When I was young and.....*ahem* well you know.......my 83 V45 bested that number by 5 or so more MPH.

Now, that was many many MANY moons ago.

I haven't pushed it that hard in a loooong time.

For me, the beauty of a V4 is torquing through fast sweeping curves or sucking someone into a corner in too high a gear for them and rolling on the throttle as we exit. These are my 'ceptor's strong points and I stick to them as much as I can.

If I get caught out in the open, a good 600 class bike can eat my lunch these days. s

Sure, if they dance on the shifter fast enough the newer bikes have got me hands down coming out of the apex.

But the reality is there's not many of those experienced riders out there. It's usually an average rider, or someone who's just not as familiar with his bike as I am with mine (I have been riding 'ceptors since the first one in 83 after all). Or it's a squid who either can't think fast enough to get it done, or doesn't know what to do, or balks a shift, or drops down one too many gears and sends his RPM up through the stratosphere.

While I just drone away from them, wondering what all that racket and fuss is about next door....

It may not be new, it may not be wrapped in plastic and it may not be the "big stick" anymore, but my old VF's suit my laid back technical riding style juuuuust fine.

At 47 years old it's not about who's fastest any more, it's all about the feel of the lean, the smell of the open air and personal satisfaction of the ride.........

    Perfectly said.
As young as I am (...24) this is the reason I want to continue riding.

Sometimes that open air stuff is not all its cracked up to be. One example is a ride through dairy country and thankee Jesus, not too many pig farms.

Another way to put it: "to be old and wise, you must first be, young and stupid."

I too am 47 but owned dah old Vee-fer for 17 years, so I was 30 when I thoroughly got ensconced into Vee-Four-dom...Happy ever since, love my bike as it makes me smile every time I take it out. One of my best friends after my parents. Still gota break-dah-ton on every ride regardless of what I am riding. Vee-fer loves cruising 130 mph er so for a little while at least   Have become more conservative as far as the lean angles go, tyres still feather all the way to the edge, got some new ones on order for this week. Cheers....

I had 146 point something confirmed by Garmin, 481 between Fulton,NY and Oswego,NY straight and flat newer road nicely paved. I really couldn't tell you if that was everything- it's the fastest I've ever been. Previous record was same stretch of road with my 1998 VR6 Jetta with cold air, exhaust and chipped ECU and the 140 MPH speedo was buried and it was still pulling pretty hard but I ran out of road. Bike has BMC filter, geared plus speedo healer, Motad stainless header jet hot coated, Two Bros. high mount and power commander with a PC site map for everything but the header. There's more but nothing that I think affects top speed. I did do the kessel run in 12 parsecs though, lol

I have my 94 VFR at 175 on my helmet cam, I did it probably 3 months ago. And the ZX11 did 175 because of the gearing and the agreement all sport bike companies made with each other years ago. Assuming it's still in action, no bike will go faster than 186 MPH without modification

"...A gentlemen's agreement was reached among the major motorcycle manufacturers to limit the speed of their machines to 300 km/h (186 mph), starting with some 2000 models, and becoming widespread by the 2001 model year."

IMO some of these really fast older VFRs may have metric speedos.. That metric system is a bitch..

About three days ago, I was out on the interstate with about two miles of a straight shot. I got her to almost redline and hit 148-150 indicated. And it was windy with about 20mph gusts. 6th Gen. Two Bros. exhaust.

166 indicated but 155 confirmed by ms state trooper radar gun. that was the day i bought it. no tag, no insuance, no ticket. he let me go with a warning. i run in the triple digits most every day to and from work on the interstate. usualy around 110. i use the I-10 signs for speed limit signs. ive held her up around 130 for 40-50 mile stretches running home from new orleans late at night several times. bike never complains and is smooth as butter at those speeds. but wide open in hi gear, she wont come near the red line. 07 rwb, bone stock

Yep, mine too, I can count on one hand the times I have bumped the rev-limiter in lower gears too. Mine goes 130 mph for a little bit every time I take it out... ; )

I look at stuff and think its a 8mm, 10mm, 12mm and so on and so on, so; in that regard I think in the metric system. Now, if youi asked me how many kilometers I rode from Daytona back to my house, I would scratch my head and say, "I dont know." We think in miles and gallons and other stuff. I do like my metric spanners and sockets better than the American-0h stuff, they just has a certain, Jen-ah-say-qua that the boring Ase stuff dont have...call me twisted...

Not high-Jacking the thread either, its all BB's fault...

I had my '98 VFR up to 145 indicated. It was on Northbound I-25 just South of Fort Collins, CO. Temps were low 80's.
I had to slow down due to cars in my way but I got the impression there was more speed there and there there was a little room till redline but I can't remember how much since it was over ten years ago.
I can hit 120 mph just on an onramp and that doesn't bother me but 145 is too much in traffic.
