I have done 145 in my pontiac GTO. I have done 140 on my goldwing. I think speedos are 15% off or so at those speeds.
Bwiess took my bike up to around 140 but he is a squid ( just kiddin B ) before I bought her.
I only weigh 145 and althoagh I pee myself around the twisties ( I keep diapers in my tankbag ) I would like to LEGALLY see what I could do on a straightaway, im used to drag racing... just too old to get in trouble.
Where could I go and pay a small fee to run her up to top speed ( with the right gear of course )? When I was young I heard about small airports doing that kind of thing?
Let me know and we will see what a gen 3 can do.

i think your best bet would be putting it on a dyno and winding it out through 6th gear. there is a video on youtube of a RWB going 170 something mph on the dyno. there you can see what exactly your bike is doing at 10 grand plus in 6th gear and if you actually have a govenor. your probably just running outa steam. im sure a good slip on, filter, and tune will bring your top end up.

P.S. you can always put it on the center stand and see if it will go past 155:eek:
    just kidding lol

    A few questions:

    1. How'd you get rid of the governer/rev limiter?

    2. Where'd you get the trick subgrame?

    3. Where'd you get the Ti rims (what brand)?

    I'd like to do #'s 1 & 3 to mine maybe.

Honda did not put a top end govener on the VFR. The engines power peaks just above 10k RPMs. Given the wind resistance at that speed, it simply can't pull past it's peak power in 6th gear. On a dyno there is no wind resistance. Thats why it will rev all the way to redline.

you're never too old to find out

it's all in your capability and if the riders with you will be behind you or not.
I've had the gears going quickly through some long ass sweepers out here... When I got pulled over, it was a handshake and pat on the back. Fellow riders know where you open it up so they wait for you and have a cup o joe when you're finished ;)

185 mph is pretty fast. I've only have my '86 VFR750 for about 2 months now, so I haven't had a chance to crank it open on the highway yet.
I did have my '82 CBF900 at 160 mph, which was kind of scarry because the front-end started to come off the ground.

Lets just say,...it was exhilarating. Then I regained my wits...

I ride mine every day in West Texas, with long flat stretches of highway. I have gotten mine to 167 on the speedo. It's 4 miles per hour slow according to the warning I got the other day. 121 in a 70 (51 over the speed limit. the speedo at the time said 125) It runs just fine at 10k tack in 6th gear. I have done my 47 mile commute in 22 minutes several times a week.

I got lucky. I had just got the bike 2 hours before. The DPS trooper was retiring in two days and told me he will end it the way he started it. I was ready to get raped. He handed me the warning and said have a good day. I was getting out of the car to go back to the bike an he said so how fast does it go. I told him 2 min before the corner I was at 155. He smiled and said slow down and be safe.

Well there you go, Now you can brag to the Busa guys that you can go 155mph on two cylinders and then at 10,200 rpm in top gear the vtec kicks in the other two cylinders and the VFR takes off like a rocket from hell.. LOL
