Just pushed my 06 up to 145 (indicated) last week. Was setting on about 10 grand. I feel as tho it will do around 160. The bike was so stable and smooth at that speed! Only problem I encountered was my left ear drum was really hurting due to the low pressure build up in my helmet, an HJC. Next time I'm wearing ear plugs!

238 KMH the other day. Think there was room to go more but had a fairly bulky back pack on and the aerodynamics were causing uneasy and unintentional movement of bike, so backed off.

My god!!! Dude, you must always use earplugs. You will positively go deaf over time (especially the higher frequencies) if you do not - this is not a rumor or conjecture but proven medical fact and is irrespective of what you ride or how fast or technique. Helmets actually, and as you may have noticed above, make the ear suffer more than without one (although anyone is mad not to use a full face helmet under any circumstances and raises the insurance of all of us who do). Please buy some -33dB earplugs at your local drugstore or invest in some custom plugs, wear them every time you get on a bike, and save your hearing!

Yes you can easily hit 115 in third gear.

If you look at the road tests of these bikes it is likely you will find that the VFR is quicker in top gear roll-ons due to vastly higher torque, which determines roll-on speed.

You just learn to adapt to it. I had my very tall Triumph Tiger at an indicated 120mph on a very windy bridge over the Chespeake Bay a few years ago and had same up a long run up the Outer Banks with a very strong wind off the Atlantic at 90 all day. Bike was just tilted toward the wind about 10 degrees is all. and a little buffety. A VFR, being shorter and more aerodynamic, would be a doddle.

"Windy Corner" on the TT Mountain Course routinely moves the racers over about 8 ft at the apex.

I wear earplugs all day at work. The little foam jobbers that swell up after their inserted, their provided by my employer. I generally always wear them riding but for some reason didn't have them the day I pushed the bike up to 145. Won't make that mistake again! I've already lost a lot of my high frequency hearing, retired Air Force, worked on the flight line for many years and when I was younger and naive didn't wear hearing protection all the time, paying for it now.

Sorry about the hearing loss, mate, but chuffed to hear you usually wear them. Just was concerned for another rider out there. Hope it doesn't get any worse.
    Cheers

Thanks John, I appreciate the concern. Matter of fact I just had my indoctrination into the Veterians Administration Hospital today. They will be taking care of all my medical needs from here on out. Will be getting an appointment with audiology here in a few weeks. I have a constant ringing in both ears and at times it changes pitch. If I pay attention to it, it will drive me batty (battier?). Anyway, I don't think there's much that can be done, really don't know.

Comparing which gen VFR? And how far from one stoplight to the other?

Generally...horsepower numbers are similar, but the weight of the CBR is about 100lbs lighter, it revs a bit quicker and, whilst the VFR has it in torque, that torque is notoroiusly weak in the lower end of the rev range - the latter two gen VFR motors being very closely related to a race engine (albeit 5th much more than 6th). I would guess the CBR would have it, but not by much.

However, it's really an apples to oranges comparison as the VFR is not a middleweight sport bike but a sporty sports tourer and not designed for such escapades.

A lot would depend on the pilot too. A experienced racer will be much quicker than your average sub-standard riding American.

i have an 05 ZX6R 636 and 07 VFR i would have to say that the VFR is quicker just about anywhere below a 100.
taking off side by side at 60-70 in 4th the VFR blows the ZX away.

ZX has -1 front sprocket, VFR has more mod's

Stock VFR (4th Gen) vs Stock ZX6R 636, he could not keep up while changing gears at 13k rpm, and me not even trying at 9,5k rpm.

The VFR is deceptively fast if pushed right.
