Oh, god. You sound like a sleazy democrat lawyer. Most all insurance companies are going to offer more than enough to cover your medical and towing costs, the real cost of the bike, plus something for pain and suffering on the FIRST offer. The place where they might start getting nitpicky is for comprehensive coverage, which this is not. If you want to make an issue out of it, then go ahead and hire a lawyer. He'll easily double the offer and take half. Ouch, I can feel my insurance premiums going up. There are still people out there that are satisfied with getting what they're owed, rather than getting as much as they possibly can.
I think you miss interpreted my comment...Just talking from experience.... the few situations I have had with insurance claims is just that - I get an offer that is way below what is needed to break even. I'm not after anything more than that, not to maximize all I can get. The lowball and also denial thing has happened with friends and family members too, so I'm just saying claims adjusters are trained to save the insurance company money, if they can get away with zero, they will go for it. The democrat lawyer thing is definately a low blow. No way am I either or both. Litigation in this country is outta control. Enuff fodder now - let's be there for CdnVffer.... MD
Ok, I was outta line. The fact that you agree "democrat lawyer" is a low blow means I like you. I guess our experiences have been different. I insure through Geico. When my bike was stolen, they paid me 4,250, which they decided was the current value, even though my bill of sale and what I paid was only $4k, even. I was out my registration, tax, and title fees, but I did get to ride the bike for 6 weeks and got to keep the extra gear and parts that came with the bike. When I had my accident, they covered all of my medical expenses, a month of lost wages (even though my work gave me paid vacation for 2 of those weeks), and they gave me 5k on top of that for pain and suffering. Because I had medical insurance already, my bills were double covered and I got to keep the 4k in medical expenses. So I came out with ~11k to nurse my bruises and fix my bike. (I had no comprehensive/theft this time, yet still came out ahead on my $2200 used bike, which I mostly restored for $350.00 for a set of used forks, a peg bracket, and some used plastics. Should I ever get it painted, I'm still ahead.) They even refunded the remaining time on my 1-year policy. I never talked to a lawyer nor asked for a second offer, and I'm still with them. Well, I did talk to a lawyer about my double coverage to make sure it was rightfully mine to keep, and turns out it was. So they treated me fair, and I wasn't a dick. The cop at the scene was the one who tried to screw me, royally.
Very sad for you bro, but on the bright side you were not seriously injured. Thankfully, I have managed to avoid the very thing that happened to you, but just barely, lately it seems like theyre all out to get me. Every time some one posts up about their crashes, it makes the rest of us a bit more vigilant. If it can be said that there is a silver lining to your crash, maybe that is it.
