This would be my exact sentiment!!!

And having experienced this first hand, I can tell you that before the noise gets "that" loud, the vibrations from the bike would be telling you something is not right. You chose to ignore all the signs the bike was giving you and drove it into the ground at terrible risk to yourself. Strange!!!

Lets know how it works out for you.

A hard lesson to learn. Hopefully Honda will take care of it. If you ever hear any sound in any vehicle that is out of the norm a safe as possible immediate shut down is in order. First check is oil level and engine temp. Post up what happens.

It's NEVER a good idea to buy a bike in its first year of production !!!!!!!!

By the second or third year alot of small and some large changes are made for better performance and reliability.

Having nothing to do with a blown engine, according to recently uncovered CIA and FBI intelligence sources we now have evidence that SOW is, in reality, Donald Trump.

Pitfox! First of all, this thread has got nothing to do, with my thread, The Story So Far, on the UK site, Honda VFR Club.

I am sorry to hear of your problem with your VFR1200FD, BUT, why oh why did you carry on riding it, when you felt the loss of power in the first place. Beggar's belief. Riding a motorcycle, is all about FEEL.

    Hi all
Is it only the first model 1200 that has these problems.?
I can't believe Honda would let this happen have they forgotten the VF 750 already.
    I haven't

Honda had forgotten all about the VF750 as early as 2002. :bounce:

I believe you can find pretty any vehicle in the world with damaged engine - engine brakes, like everything else.
I understand the OP's frustration as I had the same story with my V-max while riding 220kph on a freeway.

It's not the first damaged engine in VFR1200. Nobody said that. Personally this would be the 3rd I can recall.
I know many more totaled engines in previous VFR models, I know many(way)more totaled engines in BMW models
but I never even considered calling them "dangerous"...

o'rly? I don't recall reading about 5th gen engines grenading. Wonder if it was the same chaps who put together the 2.0 liter 2016 civic engines, did the early 1200's as well.

Try better because I know 2 personally...con rod went for a walk...nothing's perfect mate.

VFR1200 has a problem with BAD dealership servicing - it's frequently serviced improperly. There're some stories with those engines
smoking and stalling after the valve service.

oh, I don't know. something called statistics. Let's say there's 50 d00ds worldwide actually riding 1200's, cause let's be honest here. Practically no one bought that f00kin bike. Dealers were sitting on 3 year old stock with DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP discounts right? 3 or more engines have now exploded. Compared to about 5 million vfr800 owners. I'll give you 3 exploded 800 engines.

So that's 6% engine failure for the 1200, compared to .0006% failure rate for 800 engines.

VFR800 is not the bike I would even consider taking for free. Once dealer asked me to take it as a loan bike. I said I'd take that 125cc scooter
    because it's probably faster...

Yeah, and the 8th gen VFR800 is a bestseller :glee::biggrin-new:

VFR1200 properly maintained will also get to 150k miles, easily!

Yep, the 1200 was super sweet. You could ride it around the block once before the tank was empty. SOW actually got the 1.5gl jerry can fill up idea for his 800 from seeing the 1200 at his local stealership. Honda design was genius "hey! let's making a touring bike with worse gas mileage and a smaller tank! with an engine that may or may not hold together, and not profit!"
