    Hey slow:

From one rider to the next and I'm not being smart.

I think its time to let your 500 go. Sell it outright or begin the part out process so you can save up for a bike that will not cause you the pain you've been having for way to long.

I take no offense to your opinion Bubba and I appreciate it. :-D

Truth is, I've been planning to get rid of the bike. The F2 swap has been one disappointment after another and the rest of the bike is no gem either.

Problem is I cannot afford another bike. I'd like to fix up my 500 and sell it to the next new rider who'd appreciate it and then move to a nice VFR

But I'd like to have another bike first before I sell this one. I'd rather ride this bike than NO bike.

IF you can still ride it then I understand.

But a man has to come to terms with all the little expenses that add up plus the time to 'work' on a broke down POS to keep it going. After a few years of that aggrevation with time lost you could have 1500 to 2000 saved and be on a running bike again without the...well you know, the BS you've been going through.

Hey Matt1986....have you ridden with a passenger yet?

...and JamieD....any ideas on why there is clearance issues with a passenger on the back?

Hmmm....well maybe it's the F2 shock.....since you have an F4 shock. (correct me if that is incorrect)

    You are absolutely right.

But can you confirm which shock is on your bike please?

Where are your clearance issues - is the tire rubbing the inner fender?

I have a DMr F4i conversion and currently have the stock 18" rear wheel mounted (will be installing 17" CBR600F wheels).

With my current setup I have no clearance issues when riding with a passenger.

The outer right side of the fender is rubbing. can be seen in top photo:

Melted plastic on the tire....seen on lower photo.

Just thought of this....if it's only rubbing on the one side....does that mean the tire isn't exactly in the middle of the swingarm?

Have you not verified that the wheel is centered - wasn't there a previous thread on this?

I have verified that it is inline with the front wheel as close as possible. I found it difficult to be precise.

But I haven't checked to see if the tire is centered in the swingarm (equal distance between both chain adjusters)

I would check this and also check that the front and rear sprockets are aligned.

Well I have had the bike running on the rear stand and letting the rear wheel spin in 1st.

I'd kneel behind the bike (holding my breath and wincing as the exhaust makes my eyes burn) and eye ball the chain and sprockets and as far as I can tell they seem aligned. ?????

Hmm, this is an interesting way to check :) but I'm not convinced of its accuracy...

Not sure if you want to invest in a new tool, always fun to purchase tools IMHO, but this will help you to get things 100% dialed in:

I'm unsure of it's accuracy as well. Would the laser be any better?

I believe the Profi would be a better check as the laser is running all the way to the front sprocket.

I've read very good reviews on the Profi C.A.T. and am saving up for one myself -especially as I am working on a wheel conversion and want to be 100% sure that everything has been machined correctly.

    :pop2:

Man this is a bummer slowbird. List that thing on craigslist for a healthy price and see if you get any takers! Don't remind people that the 500 is a POS and that you are "moving up". If they wanna know why you're selling; you're bored, it's unhealthy to change girlfriends monthly, so you want to try a new bike. Once you have cash in hand, you won't have to wait more than a couple weeks to find a bike with less grief.
