The connector shown in post 7 above won't be obvious as I think it is normally taped up and effectively inside the loom - so assuming no-one else has been investigating in this area you will probably need to looking for the lump in the loom wiring and then carefully open the loom up. What you will find/need to do to fix things once you find the connector is speculation - if you are lucky carefully cleaning and reinstating may wok if not soldering irons seem quite effective at joining wires. :) Good luck and let us know how you get on - Better still post up photos!

The connector is quite easy to spot, look for a small rectangle lump in the harness around the R/R harness area.

Found the connector, cut the tape around it to get to it. Popped the top and its clean. No burns no scorch marks nothing. I don't think the orange connector is suspect at this point. my father took it for a ride yesterday and he said it ran better than before.

That is good news. Would make me feel better but it would still take some time before I trusted the bike again. A little neurotic about such things until I can identify the root cause of a problem.

    I agree with Tink.

I would now check other spots in the wiring harness. These things don't fix themselves. A good and likely culprit is any wire near the exhaust system. If the wire touches the pipes it will burn through the insulation and short out on the exhaust. Removing the fairings may have moved this wire away from it's source of ground. A frayed wire could be at any location. The good news is, if this is the problem heat shrink or electrical tape will fix it.

Keep looking for a pinch point, a wire rubbing on something or a wire burning on a hot part. When you find it you will know it right away.

    Good Luck!

Could have been in the tail light section. Bunch of frayed wires there. Loomed them all up just to be safe. 50 miles of riding and going good.
