In the UK we nod, not wave. I nod to all motorcyclists as long as they aren't wearing shorts and t shirts. I even nod to L plate riders.
I don't nod to scooters unless they nod first. Afterall they are much lower down on the totem poll than me.

When it comes to the most pompous posers on any road in any country, the cruiser riders, i nod back, but don't often nod first, as sometimes they ignore the nod. I don't get offended though. If they ignore me i just think to myself how silly they look with a saucepan on there head. And how silly they are to favour looks over safety. http://www.customcruisers.com/Custom2005/customshop2005/contents/media/silly12.jpg

Here in Jersey, its accepted statewide that flippin someone the middle finger is basically the same as waving or saying hi. Harleys, Gixxers, Yammies... it doesn't matter.

I have passed Moms in minivans where all 9 of her kids flipped me off. No worries - right back at ya kid. (And thinking I'd like to bang that MILF, but it would probably be the old "sausage down the hallway" cliche after she had 9 kids).

    So to you: :flip:

I'll wave at anybody coming the other way on a bike...regardless of what they are riding. If you are on two wheels you are in the "club". I'm not offended if they don't reciprocate. Hell, I'll even wave at motorcycle cops. They are human (most of the time) and ride for the love of riding and get to do it while performing their job.

I rack up quite a few miles everyday and try not to figure out who I should wave at and who not to. Of course you do begin to see folks on a regular basis and know what the response will be and just respond accordingly. When I'm lane splitting and slide to the left and make sure to let someone by who happens to be a cop they almost always acknowledge the effort. And the fact you are going well over the speed limit doesn't come in to play

In the UK it's a nod of the head. Don't want to take your hands off the bars when hitting 60 or 70 down the twisty country lanes. I've found Harley riders are the only dickheads whom don't aknowledge another bike.
