Ever since I met my wife three years ago, my wash-board abs are gone  guess being happy makes you fatter, if going from 158# or so to 173# is fat. Still, I cant fit into my leather britches that I used to wear before I met her. Got new ones anyway, SooOOOooo...You gota watch your fat intake and do cardio half an hour a day, no real rule of thumb. Its a diet for life really.

I'm going to share my experience though I don't think many of you will relate to my weight.

About 3 years ago I got out of a bad relationship and I was a pathetically skinny 125lbs. (5'9" tall)...and that's not from Fast metabolism....it's from not having an appetitie.

Anyways....I started going to the gym 3-5 times a week. In about 1.5 years I got up to a nice 150 lbs and I was in very good shape. I wasn't ripped or anything but I was stronger and more active.

Skip to now and I haven't worked out much in the past year. I've been going jogging 1 or twice a week for 30mins but I'm a solid 145lbs of flab and bone.

I blame my new job for my lack of exercise. Not because it's a desk job, as I had one when i was in good shape, but it is high stress and when i get home I am just too tired.

Anyways....I thought this thread was about slimming down the bikes but this is just as interesting. I'm hoping to get in better shape. Not neccesarily lose weight.

    LOL

Nothing like a cranky 1st gen to kill your appetite.

...cause you can't eat when you spend all your money on parts, and all your time on wrenching.

I started Insanity a few weeks ago. I haven't changed my diet much and haven't really lost any weight, but I'm moving the flab out and the muscle back into my shoulders. Lot's of friggen cardio... man they chose the name right. It looks easy when you read that you only have 45 mins or so, but 10 minutes into it, it sux balls. I just wanted to get in better shape so I could start running again and maybe do a marathon this year.

    ha!!!

yes i have heard good things about insanity. My muscle-clad ex marine buddy does it.

If I had a scheme it would be called "sanity" and it would be my workout regime : 30 minutes of jogging 3X A WEEK!!!

nah. it still pops and cracks and has a sharp pain here and there. I found that like most pains, you can ignore it and proceed. I'm probably doing more damage but surgery sucks IMO and just sitting around waiting for things to change doesn't work. If I build up the accessory muscles it helps quite s bit. I'll probably never military press 185 again, though.

yeah, that's most like what I'll do when I finish this. It's just dark when I get up now and kind of cool when I get off work so working out indoors works best. I'm not paying a gym just to come use a treadmill, either...

Had mine evaluated having the same concern about doing further damage. Stopped short of the MRI. Doc's opinion was that I had a libra (something-r-other) tear and that doing nothing would not hurt anything. As long as I could manage the pain, then it's only a quality if life issue.

hopefully yours is the same situation.

I've eased into my training, not wanting to push my shoulder too hard.

At the moment I am doing the following:

    Bench - 90kg
    Deadlift - 100kg
Shoulder press - 30kg each arm
    Squats - 80kg
    Leg press - 160kg
    Chinups
    Dumbell row - 32.5kg

I've actually gained weight but my wife says I've lost some fat around my waistline, so that's good.

yeah, kinda what the ortho told me. he said we could do the mri and take a look but most likely it would feel worse after surgery and that my functional level was high so it might even be worse after surgery. it's like patrick swayze said in roadhouse..."pain don't hurt."
