Well at this juncture I doubt she has held up as well as the bike …

Yeah, come on down! Our hospitality and tourism businesses need all the help they can get. The brakes are coming off as of yesterday with the first flights in from Australia with only a bit of home isolation required, and I think those rules will disappear soon too. We do have an incredible Omicron outbreak right now but if world trends are followed, we should be through that in a few weeks. Hopefully.

The picture I posted is an overlook on the Coromandel Peninsula, looking generally north. It is a great riding area although you need to pick the time/direction carefully as it is easy to get mired in heavy traffic as many wealthy Aucklanders have holiday homes at the many beaches there. I was down towards Raglan on Saturday which is my other favourite loop from home.

Latest news because I knew you all had nothing else to do but talk about travel and posters. ;)

Awesome Terry! I probably won't have a bike, but we plan on looking around for a place to possibly land 3-6 months of the year once my wife retires. Mainly need surf and access to animals. :) We love green fields, rain and everything England except for the freezing cold air and ocean. We spent time in Hamilton, Raglan and a few hours in Auckland. We are thinking a little piece of property just a few miles out from the ocean with space for some animals. Ocean view would be nice but not required. I would also like to get a little race car for Hampton Downs.

There is no latest news, but I do love my Shorai Batteries. Fook me, Little Red hadn't been started in over a month and so I figured the weather is nice so lets see how easy she starts. Barely had the trigger pulled before she roared to life. Thanks to all yalls help on this forum with the carbs! I am really hoping to get red up on the lift Sunday.

    Have a good day.

Here we go!! Finally reconfigured my garage/shed/daughter move out. Got the CT off the lift finally. Still, so much to do on it, but I just don't want to see it for a long time (like never).
It is time for the VFR to be realized. It is going to take a few months (most likely waiting for more parts), but lil red is on the lift. I took her for one last ride to circulate some oil and listen to that sweet V4 sing, before I pull her apart and do stuff.
Kinda like the Millenium Falcon my garage ain't pretty but it works well. Minimal space, but enough for all my gear and 3 bikes. 600F2 sleeping in the corner and the ST1100 waiting for a radiator cap. Hawk is sleeping in the shed. A little more arranging (bins with parts) everywhere, but that is next weekend.
Test run on my new Costco LED shop lights, it only took 14 yrs for good light (looks like I need 1 more behind the VFR).

Oil drain in the process. :)

Looking good. My friend asked me the other night, how do I stay motivated? Told him that a good work space is probably number one. If you have to move 5 things around and then set this or that up just to get started, it kills your motivation to get going in the first place. If you can walk up and jump in, it helps a lot.

Look forward to some progress reports. Good job.

Oh, I forgot. My Rothmans jacket went for the ride as well. Forearms are a little tight, but otherwise a nice jacket. The best part was looking in the mirror for CHPs and half of my mirror is filled with Mic Doohan looking leathers!! So giddy every time I looked. That alone was worth the price!! Thanks again Straycat for the hookup!

Looking into shocks, I am on the fence. Wife says go with the Penske, wallet say maybe not and there is the general confusion (for myself) on what size I really need.
    - YSS says 275 length
    - MotoRicambi says 285 length
    - Penske to figure out tomorrow unless they are confused on a non-US model.

Cap had some good info on VFbuilds thread, but I may still be confused on what I ask Penske. I guess I could just hold and pull the shock this weekend and see what I have. It still seems like it sits low in the rear but it could just be really soft (even on the hardest setting).

I just ordered the YSS 343… Cap recommend this particular model.
    I believe it’s 285 mm length …

Is it installed? If so, how does it ride? Inquiring minds want to know. :)

The YSS chart can't be trusted, but it is a great resource to get started. Your bike should be 285mm (1986 is 265 stock, 1987 275 stock).

On our 86s, we also went 285 for a couple reasons. Stock on a 86 is actually 265, but we have installed 17" rear wheels (yours already had that). So we need an extra 10mm right off the bat to compensate. And we all know how much this era of bikes like some additional ride height without a stability penalty. So with a 285 that has more than +/-5mm adjustment, we can adjust to within a few mm of the 275 if needed / wanted, but have plenty of adjustment in the sweet spot to play around. Plus, if for any reason an 86 owner just doesn't like it, they can install a 1987 suspension knuckle (which is the same as 1988) and effectively take 10mm "off" too.

On the "RC26", I modified a Fox TC to 295mm, used with a 1987 linkage piece. +20mm over 1987 stock, 10 for the 17" wheel, 10 for ride height. That is pretty much the limit I would want to go. The suspension can extend farther than that, but it would be constantly very harsh on the chain runner around the front of the swingarm. That's on top of CBR600F2 forks that are shorter than stock too. Bike is still 100% rock solid, no head shake or twitch to speak of.

    Outstanding explanation Cap…

I have not installed it yet because it’s still not here. They are running a couple of weeks behind… darn
