The enjoyment has gone out of riding! Have I been riding too long?

I did have a chance to do some work on one, years ago. It was in the Indian guise and not very pretty to my eyes. I knew the early models had crank failure problems but so did a lot of Brit bikes in that era.

I'm still here. Just taking in all the suggestions. Some great ideas. Will have to consider doing some of them.

Sounds like the issue is location..location...location. We retired in Asheville, NC and 5 minutes from home I can find great technical rides that get the blood pressure up and the my excitement back at 69. We lived in Florida for 20+ years related to work and the long straight flat dull roads moved me from bikes to boats. Once retired, I got back on the road in NC and have never looked back. Put a cover on the rides and finish up your woking years.

It's not a competition but I have to ride a heck of a long way to find a well-maintained road...let alone a curvy one. I'm about at the 49th parallel.

There is something to this location angle. I live on 1.5 miles of dirt rock road. It can be a challenge (and not a fun one) just to reach pavement. The VFR is many things but it does not like the dirt.

I hear you Jim, can't say I would find much joy starting and ending every ride with 1.5 miles of crappy road

I had an easy 3 mile commute once, and never to rarely fired up a motorcycle to go there. My logic was it would never heat up adequately to burn off the chit in the motor oil. I have not ridden many "un-fun" motocycles, like women, I can find the good in most. Some were un-safe though, and those were never taken oot, much like the chickie your eyeballing at 3am closing time at the bar.

Hey Jim...you never did mention where in Ontario you were but I'm sure you deal with winter too in one form or another. I haven't been riding near as long as you. My riding season ends some time in October and doesn't normally start back up until April/May. I try to keep that May excitement going but I never quite stay at that high. I know one of my issues is I don't have any riding chums...that would help. My daily commute is about 10km one way...some days I think it takes longer to put my gear on than actually ride to work.

Jim -- I've come in late to the discussion, but my suggestion is to spread out your style in bikes. Looks mostly you have done the sporting side of riding, why not try dirt or a super motard? Try something thats crazy silly, and makes you grin. Even a Honda Grom.
What bike other than a sporting ride, perks your interest?
