Sheet carbon fibre can also be cut into strips and attached to the ends of handlebars. This is popular with the S&M and self flagellation crowd.

Yeah, I can surf the web but I sort of asked of peoples opinions and experience and you start going on about carbon fiber being laminated which is pretty much not answering my question but thanks for the input...

Never let it be said that BB allows anyone to wallow in ignorance even if whining is part of that condition.

Carbon fibre parts are laminates. The carbon fibre itself is an aggregate. The point was that tank protectors made of carbon fibre if even available, are not good choices for either the paintwork or clothing. What you might find are carbon fibre "look" tank protectors that too, are laminated. These are just fine. I had one on my bike for years.

If you read carefully what was suggested by several members were the side and center tank protector pads that are advertised for Honda's ST bikes and that one should shop for same which again necessitates some surfing. The idea here is that one might find a deal on the pads that were back stock for the ST 1100s. Generally the sets run to aboot 75 USD. Compare the relatively small sum to the cost of repainting a tank even with OEM colors and even at MSRP that's a bargain.

Cowabunga and don't apply for a part in Vikings season five..bunch of damned Aussies and Canadians have that one sewn up.

Hmm, I'm not looking for something like Baglux, and I have a pad sitting behind the fuel lid. What I'm thinking about is a side-thingy like the stompgrip or Snakeskin but I'm wondering what people here are using.

Check out Techspec, almost as much grip as Stompgrip but will bot mess up your leathers over time and much better looking. Easy to apply and removable. I have tried a lot of products out there and like this the best.

The weather in my hood is such the number of bikes on the road this time of year is not a bunch. I have heard that there are Kawasakidudes who use Astroturf as tank protectors. Maybe you guys in SoCal or Florida can chimp in on this one.

I bet if somebody would make one of those tank covers oot of something that would absorb water, you could grow Chia seeds or maybe even bean sprouts on your bike. Munchies at the ton.

Ok sounds like it's snakeskin from Techspech that's the way to go. Next silly question, is it work $40 to have the model fitted or should I go with the generic ones and cut something myself? The model fitted doesn't seem to exist in Sweden, or Europe for that matter and with postage from USA it's a bit over $85.

From the website it looks like there are European distributors for this line of products.

The sheet versions of the product may not do well if cut by a DIY method. The fitted products look to be cut by machine and on an angle, even perhaps by a heated blade. Going by the listed dimensions of the sheets, if your needs include kneepads and a central tank pad it may cost you more than a fitted set.

The sheet dimension is in inches making them roughly the size of an A4 piece of paper.

Making it look nice is indeed a pain. I taped the left and right back to back, and matched them, while using the dremel to get the angled edge and smooth contours.

Fair point. I've found European vendors but none that I've found using my at leas moderately good Google-Fu sells the VFR 800 ones. Closest I've found was a VFR 1200, well, closest name wise at least.

I could not find much available for the 2014 as tank protector. I went to Honda, Ebay and some of the other sites. I was not completely thrilled with the design but I bought this for $35 on Ebay. IMG_0107.jpg

I see that it looks pretty good. I worry about the fit on the 2014 tank vs. 2007. If it works I would by these with the Honda logo. I don't like mine with the goofy design. I may have to look into this. Thanks

I wish someone would post a picture of the tank designs of all of the VFR 800 to see what may work even if not for that year. That would be killer.
The earlier models had such a wider tank than the 2014 as far as a can tell seeing picture from time to time and not side by side. That would be a cool thing to document on a VFR ride with different years.

I think it would be cool if somebody made some with graphics like Disney characters or pix of Elvis. Form over function for the fashionistas.
