This is a real long shot - and even unlikely, so if someone's already tried this or knows and can shoot it down as dead on arrival, please chime in. RC-51's and later model Blackbirds (99-03) used 6 clutch springs rather than 5 (there may be others too). Though the part #'s for the outer clutch baskets are all different for the 3 (RC,XX,VFR), (as are the #'s for the centers obviously) if by some miracle the RC or XX clutch centers were compatible with the VFR clutch outer basket, that would allow for 1 additional clutch spring to be used and up the clamping pressure by 20% even with stock springs. The drawings on the parts listings are crap so they don't help much. The RC clutch center part # is 22120-MCF-000 and the XX # 22120-MAT-E00. Anyone know if swapping clutch centers is possible (mods needed, etc) or know how to find out?

Sounds Like its time to take a ride to a local bike junk yard they usually have knowledge of people and the franking bikes. They might be able to or at least get you all the information that Cogswel is suggesting. Might even have the baskets out. Don't limit yourself to just Honda parts sometimes things are closer on another bike brand.

By this time I betcha TC gots it all figured out, and didn't have to use a single HD part or a clutch from one of those bigass heavy equipment rigs he works on.

After going back and forth with Barnett I think I have a possible solution. Barnett offers friction and steel plates in different thickness and with a mix and match of plates I can put another friction plate in. Here is the set up and part numbers to put it together.
Frictions- #301-35-10010 (6 req- .118" thick ea.) -theses are the ones in the kit
    #301-35-10007 (2 req- .110" thick ea.)-ordering these
#301-35-100011 (1 req.- .118" thick - "B" plate- larger I.D.)-this plate is in the kit as well
    Steels- #401-35-069078 (8 req- .078" thick ea.)-ordering these
    Springs-99lb-#MT-91
Total stack height should be around 1.670" and I am going to order the stiffest springs I can get my grubby little hands on. Wish me luck.

Don't you mean "stubby little fingers"??? Oh never mind.
Do you think a different weight clutch oil may be in order? I may be over thinking this...

Good luck! Hope all works out.

This clutch issue is making me think of the saying I used to hear around the Drag strip back in the day.

    ....or something like that.

are you the only one who's grown the stones to ride this bitch like it's stolen?

What does Dan say about this sticky subject?

I wondered about another disk but thought it would take a custom basket - if there was even room under the cover.

Isn't there a plate in the 6g, bolted to the inside of the engine side case, right above the clutch stack? For noise or something...

If this math is correct, going from 8 frictions to 9 would up the clutch's surface area by 12 1/2% and the stiffer springs would take it past that %, which would almost equal the 1 entire additional spring idea with lots less headache (and expense). Plus after thinking about it, the clutch lever pull effort could become a PITA if the spring pressure gets upped by 20% without any other mods. This way the pressure goes up some, but not by nearly as much. Nice approach to the problem. Best of luck.

The slipping issue is really only a problem in low ambient for the most part but when it starts to slip it will not look back and you have to let off. Has only become an issue as I have gotten used to it and spank it like a two dollar hooker at aboot every opportunity. Has gone from the unexpected to what I expect it to do. Sacramento temps have dropped from 95-100ish to a nice 65-85ish this time of year and am looking forward to the power and not worrying so much aboot the engine heat and the extra power with oot the cool down concerns.

I thought slipper clutches were cool ?

Silver the problem with different clutch weight oil???? Its different engine oil we have wet clutch system that runs off engine oil.
So not sure if he needs more lube with his BJ could always try a tube of KY.

Dan was nice enough to call Barnett and give me a heads up on spring options and I ordered the plates and some 99lbs springs. The ones provided in the clutch kit were 75lbs so with the added plate and springs I should be fine. He felt that may be overkill for the job but I am done goofing around with this.

OK, this has gone on long enough; I'm guessing everyone missed my fine print?

This was a complete load of horse dung. I made the entire thing up, on the fly. I thought vfrlover4life had caught me, but alas everyone bought the follow-on horse dung of a typo, I used to cover up the smell of the first load...

Oh well, it was a half hearted attempt at humor; I was hoping someone would come in and really argue with me, and maybe BB to come in and say something completely off the wall, to take us in new and interesting directions, but no joy...

I guess I fail as a Troll. Where is that Elf fellow anyway?

Take into consideration that what you say or post may not be interesting to anyone with the exception to some of our Canadian friends who are very aware of hosers.
