That really sucks man... I imagine whatever process Honda was using wasn't so good.

Black cars sit out in the sun all the time, I bet they don't do that in a course of a year. Maybe the ozone layer right above your bike parking is toast...

My subframe paint was not the same level of finish as the frame or fairing, but I did not expect clearcoat on it.

If you like the pimpin' check out this site for all your pimpin' needs. like the fishtank heels on the boots and grills.

Stewart thats not good paint shouldn't fade that fast. my 05 is not showing any signs yet only paint showing sighs of any wear is brackets for bags, i guess thats to be expected. I think jasons got a good point see if warranty will cover any thing.

    Stewart,
Are you talking about the black sub frame right below the seat?

When I got my bike that part of the sub frame looked very worn. I was using a little plastic protectent on the part above it and accidentally sprayed some on the frame. It shined it right up.

I ride almost everyday it's above 25 and my bike sits outside all the time I'm at work so my wife got me this cover for Christmas. It folds up very small and helps keep the sun and dirt off most of the bike.

It snowed here last night and the roads are still covered. I'm working late tonight so yeah, I'm bored :photo:

Meguiar's or Mother's (can't remember which now) BACK TO BLACK.

Works miracles on anything that is black. I used it all over my brother's '05 GSX-R and it looked barnd new in 20 minutes. Smear it all over, wait, wipe off excess.

    Done.

i definitely need a little cover for my ride too. I wanna keep that baby looking new. For my money, Eagle one tire and wheel cleaner is the way to go for your wheels, I just gotta find the comperable products for the paint and plastics...

great thread. I am definitely buying that tankslapper kit. 50 bones isnt much for protecting almost every wear surface...

Pimpin' aint easy. There is so much sand on the roads of RI right now, one would have to be suicidal to take a bike out. I cry myself to sleep.

I have exactly the same fading on my sub-frame ...also the centre stand.

UV levels are extreme down here in southern Oz so I guess I could blame that?

Gave me quite a scare when I first found it after a was .. thought my detergent was too harsh.
Anyway I use a spray of Armorall to keep it black and shiny.

Faded black paint on the sub frame is a common problem (I've got it, too.) Should I ever decide to have it powder coated, I'm gonna have it done in a silver that matches the main frame.

This subject was once discussed on vfrdiscussion.com. If I remember correctly, people said it had little to do with the elements. It was just Honda being cheap and cutting costs.

The good news is it shouldn't be all that difficult to remove the subframe.

I'm actually hoping mine fades and remains stable. It's the only gloss black on the whole bike, not a fan. I would like a nice "egg shell" finish better.

Yes, that's it. Your's looks great. Mine is so faded that it is grey in color. Like I said, since the sub-frame extends from the black aluminum frame, it really sticks out.

Jason, that's a great idea. I never even gave it a thought. I'll call the dealer and see what they say.

Jabba and Ride Red! are seeing it too. If you look at the paint job on it, it really is of low quality.

    Here's my subframe.

The seat mount rubber on the front is worn, the weld has looked like this since new.

Pic whoring works for me. Reason my F4i may have a duller finish inside the swingarm is likely due to my bike having about 4X the mileage. Are those the stock wheels?

Yup, polished the lips on the stockers, and couldn't pass up the deal on the chrome ones. Got both wheels freshly chromed with new bearings in them for $650. Currently FOR SALE, as are the rest of the goodies on the bike, except the Scotts damper. That's moving to the VFR.

I'm sure I could put more miles on one, if I didn't have half a dozen in the garage right now, lol! I do love to ride that thing, I'm going to miss it. But I can always dream about it from a new recliner in a new house... just need that down payment first...

    Here's a ride video I made(sorry for the continued hijack!!) http://media.putfile.com/Rippin-on-the-F4i
