I grew up in a home infested with them...from age 12 to 18. Had to shake muh sheets and clothes out every day. They jump in your face or at you off a wall when you try to get them. They stand up on their legs and scare you by raising up their front legs at you.

It's a miracle I was never accosted by one...or more.

As soon as I could control where I lived, I swore I'd never live with them again....and I was successful until...

I was put in an uncontrolled work space: my classroom.

They were everywhere...spent another 4 years with infestations. 10 years out of 37 I've spent with them.

Saved a kid from one crawling on his lap during morning reading lesson too.

These monsters get HUGE!
The pregnant females are the most viscous. Stuck my hand in glue tub...

Watched babies galore hatch out while mama watched over. They got the classic soaping...and I hate smashing them...I've been traumatized with the jumping in muh face I took for so many years.
When I couldn't soap or didn't wanna get near them, I used muh spider vac. Dirt devil with tubing, container, and valve that opened and closed to suck them in, but they could not escape. Worked on even the huge wolf spiders we had there too. They didn't like recluse for food there...damn them.

Those were in my vac container. On my desk. Sucked spider like this up...
I left that spider vac for the teacher taking over the classroom. She laffed at me even after seeing the pics. Oh well.

Fun fact...spray doesn't work on recluse. They walk so high on legs that poison stay doesn't affect them. None gets on their bodies. Sticky traps only. Classroom full of sticky traps with 100s of brown recluse...superb!

I could go on and on. They only thing I'm more terrified of is snakes...but these more.

And of course the one that had to pull up next to me while I was on my way to muh brown recluse-filled classroom. That wasn't a nice day.

I think it's VIDEO in front and /VIDEO in back, both with brackets but you have to also delete the "s" from the "https" in your link or it won't work. I just hit the little film strip button and it prompts you for the link, paste it in and remember to delete the "s" and you get this:

Well this is just great - according to the BBC spiders can fly: "Spiders do not have wings, but that does not stop them soaring through the sky." Those were nuts. I sent in reports all the time. Response: more sticky traps. My response: new building in different district to teach in with the guarantee it was recluse free. Seriously...I asked if the building I was considering to work in was recluse free. None so far!

Zombie, you think there would be parent concerns.

I would be concerned for muhself if I saw a teacher carrying around a homemade spider vacuum full of sucked up spiders after I saw the teacher suck up 3" wolf spider...

Parents witnessed many times the spider vac in action. The students talked about it all the time.

Guess they figured Ms. Spiderbuster was afraid of no arachnid.

Spanks! Spiders should fear me...err, the soap and hair spray (spanks BB for that idea)...but I really fear them.

Ants are nothing to mess with. Just one spider usually, but thousands of those. When I was in boot camp in SC, the one thing they warmed us most about were the ants. Fire ants they said.

Scared me a great deal...brought me flashbacks of being attacked and stung by a swarm of wasps when I was 7 or so. I made sure to watch out...but their homes are so huge and fascinating!!

They do fly away after releasing some silk.

I've had many land on me before, as I spend a lot of time in woods we when weather warms.
