Have you thought about a sport cruiser like the Suzuki m109R: http://www.suzukicycles.com/Products/M109RK7/Default.aspx

or Kawa Mean Streak? They are still cruisers with more powerful engines and more clearance in the turns. Also alot of people ride the Kawa Concours. I will seriously consider that bike when I get older. The Honda ST1300 also looks comfortable.

Don't get me wrong, I love my VFR, but I don't think I'll be riding one when I'm 50! Just have fun searching the web checking all the manufacturers out.

R.W. Thanks for the Linkup The pipes are sweet! I have herd because the VFR is a V4 it can sound pretty wicked with the right pipes..... the pipes you liked me too are how do they sound are they deep or are they high picthed and poppy like a Civic with a fart can?? and that seat looks bad ass!! i can wait to get this bike!!!

also I was considering a "sport" cruser..... but the only one i like is the 1800VTXF so i am kinda in a tough spot spend 12000.00 on a cruser or spend like 4-6000.00 on a used VFR my boss has the suzuki M109 its too goofy looking not to mention the headlight is freaking huge!! and he is a weak stick rider!

I am looking for a bike that I can ride to upper mich from chicago comfortable and take curves and on-off ramps at decent speed and lean! I have put 13K on my cruser and the tires is not just worn in the center.....

I've had my days on the bikes like the CBR 1000, I will be riding to California at least once a year, the thought of riding 850 miles on a bike like the CBR or R1 makes my body hurt just thinking about it

The VFR is the perfect all around bike, But I am thinking about having 2 bikes in my garage...

The bike I seek is a lightweight 1000cc minimum, pure canyon carving beast just made for the twistys or the track. The kind where your body can only take about a hour or so and it needs a rest.

But make no mistake about it, the 5th gen VFR will ALWAYS have a place in my garage... It is just too good of all around bike to ever get rid of...

The VFR as weird as this sounds, is more comfy than my 2003 Road King  Look at my photos to see the difference...BTW a 5th gen is from 98-01. The best generation in my biased opinion...

It all comes down to where you are on the sport/touring spectrum. Both VFR and FJR can handle the twisties, but VFR is decidedly more sporty while FJR is better set up for touring.

A stock VFR is comfortable for a weekend trip but will leave you aching after a few thousand miles. In my opinion, the bars are the main culprit. Limited leg room also becomes an issue after a couple of days.

As others have said, you can make a VFR into a great touring bike. Mine has factory hard bags, Convertibars, Thurn adjustable footpegs, Sargent seat and Zero Gravity Sport Touring windscreen. The result is a VFR that is just a comfortable as my girlfriend's ST1300. However, all that stuff comes to over $2,000 out of pocket. Worth it? Yes if you love the more sporty nature of the VFR. Probably not if you mainly want to pile on the highway miles. Save your money by getting an FJR or ST1300.

Just got back from a 3,200 mile trip that included the entire Blue Ridge Parkway end to end. My VFR, girlfriend on ST1300, another friend on FJR and a couple of BMWs. Nobody had any trouble keeping up with anyone else. Nobody was any less comfortable at the end of the day.

    Cruiser to Sport

I've ridden Harley's from 86' to '02. My last 2 bikes being a Fat Boy & a Road King. Switched to sport "for a change". It is the best change I ever made!
Cruiser no more. My friends have pretty much abandoned me but hey, they don't know what they are missing.
    Go for it...You won't be disapointed.

I know the feeling, thank god I moved to a different state and made new friends. The Harley was more of a social thing for me, but the VFR is defiantly more my style...

    Love gold valves!

I have gold valves up front, Corbin gunfighter, Beetle bags, and a back that was broken twice (the first time wasn't bad enough, so I wanted to try again!).

If my 49 year old decrepit ass can handle it, you can too!

THe gold valves are the best thing that I've done to any of my scoots.

Yep gold vales are great, now if only my WP shock would show up before the bad weather. Would love to feel that rear working like it should.
