Dude! I haven't said a peep in weeks!

Hopit, your input and time in this has been commendable.

Oh, and put me on the list for MOAR BACON!

Now that most of the interested parties are on the record...............my 2 cents is enclosed in this pre-paid return envelope.

The project seems to me like a huge waste of time, talent and money. Style over function is a personal taste. My suggestion would to be to sell the bike, save your money, and buy ANY newer gen VFR with or without the SSSA depending upon your finances. Riding old bikes may be classic, fun, unusual, individualistic, historic, but it's not proper riding compared to any bike 15 or 20 years newer ! An old bike is like riding a mule, while modern bikes are more like Arabian thoroughbreds, and adding bling to an older bike won't improve it and disrespects the ORIGINAL concept. You ARE NOT Roland Sands...............unless you ARE !

Why would someone install a supercharger on a Ford model T when they could drive a 5-litre 4-valve V8 Mustang ??

BTW: anyone who would think of forcing a VF500 engine into an Hawk frame's gotta be unrealistic. Put an inferior engine into a well-designed engine and frame combo ?

IMO the answer to a vastly improved VF500, light years ahead, with the SSSA designed in, is the RC 31, NT650, Hawk GT, GT647 usually known as the ('88-'91) Hawk, never to be confused with earlier Hawk models.

You might be able to find a clean RC31 with better engineering, with the ELF bits looking all gorgeous-like hanging off the rear, for around $2000 or less............... which is all that i dare opine on this heated and contentious topic.

Disagreers are encouraged to reply, and i haven't been called an "over-opinionated dickhead" for months, so someone get busy !

It's not that you are a dickhead, it's just that you don't get it and still feel the need to speak your mind...

Well, I guess that does make you a dickhead then. My bad.

Furthermore, considering the collection of bikes you have listed under your screename it's surprising you don't take your own advice.

rebuilding any old bike is a waste of money.. you are gonna put it way more time and money that it is probably worth. why should anyone but the one that is going to do it care.... Yes there are a ton better bikes to buy and ride, but this is a project that he wants to try and do. so why give him negative vibes.... forge on blight, don't let the naysayers and dooms day bringers ruin a PROJECT that you want to do.....

I'm with you Crusty, I am wasting far too much money reviving an old bike...AND LOVING every minute of it. By the time I am finished I would be embarassed to admit how much I spent and compare it to some more modern bike, but I dont care. I wish I had more mechanical skills and the balls to experiment properly like Blight. Surly these projects arnt all about practicality otherwise we would all buy Toyota Corrollas. I for one am looking forward to Blights outcome, he sounds quite comfortable with the idea that it may or maynot work. Best of luck Blight and I hope you still will update us when you are done!

When this thread first popped up I immediately assumed the usual suspects would chase Blight away. It's a damn shame because this is exactly the sort of thread this board should be about. For those of you who have anything other than encouragement to add, kindly STFU.
