Went back and looked at some pics. You appear to have the carb vents and vacuum port properly disabled. Any intake vacuum ports on the heads accidentally left open?

So I disconnected the throttle cable from the handle bar and she idles properly even when blipped. Choke was necessary to start cold. Earlier while running I sprayed a little carb cleaner at the boots and there was no change.
Might just be a bad cable. Honestly it could be from the wrong bike even. Who knows when you get a bucket of parts.
Going to run here in a minute and see if consistency is a thing.
Pretty sure it is a shit cable. I can pull on it manually, blipping, steady, up and down revs. Seems good without the throttle tube attached.

So we have 1 minor coolant leak= hose clamp area.
Condensation from each muffler = not coolant..lol which to my understanding is a good thing.
    Radiator switch and fan work.
    Tail lights work.
    Radiator cap works.
    Thermostat seems to work.
    Bike runs smooth
Idle does fluctuate ever so slightly in some kind of rhythmic 10 second pattern.
Years since the bike ran. 10+

Well, ok then. That's good news. Might be the wrong throttle tube too.

Don't forget, you have free-play adjustment on the cable too, near the housing. I like to set that about 1/4 "out", set the cables on the carbs a tad on the loose side, then do the final adjustment on the cable when I can check lock to lock.

Cool! I will get a new one on order. Added pic to last post of a permanently bent cable. Not so smooth. True on the tube. This is what I have.

Stock Honda tubes are usually white. I don't know if the cable is your problem.

And you can "straighten" cables to some degree if they aren't kinked or frayed. Carefully. Done it a few times.

I did have a white throttle tube, but it was too damaged to attach any grip to... dang. Good info. I will need to get a new tube. $16 on Honda direct. cable is $17. Maybe get both and start fresh.

I have a 2001 CBR1100XX and the stock tube is black. I thought it was aftermarket but I ordered a replacement from Honda and it was black. I needed a tube to replace my broken one from my CBX ( white tube ) so I used my spare CBR tube. Did not fit correctly and it didn't work smoothly. Needless to say I ordered a white replacement tube. All is good now.

Annoyingly you can’t remove the cable from the carbs with carbs installed. I don’t see any access for my scrawny hands.

image.jpg If I was a snowflake I would take offense! Thanks Capt!

cleaned, fitted, and polished tail section. Came out nice in my book. Had to trim the plate holder evenly unlike some other pro mechanic. Also had the grab bar powder coated. $10 the side screw is from previous owner. I can’t leave it out or the hole will be missing paint.

What a PITA to get the fuel tank hoses to line up. Jeezus
We are now running off of the fuel tank, no gas leaks yet. Lol my wife helped me actuate the petcock ( insert joke here) while swished a gallon o fuel in the tank to knock off any debris inside. Two little micro particles which the carb filter would have caught. So tank is clean and good to go.

Nice!! I'll have to say, hooking up the fuel lines on a 86 is not my favorite things.

    Keep it up!!

    Man I love the 500.

Your "pig pen" is what many would be proud to have and show. It's all about perspective.

When I finish projects, or major portions, I have to reset; clean, organize and put away. Then start over again.

An actual test ride after 6 months on the stand. Carbs seem good, no major leaks, cleaned and flushed clutch master. Need to be bled more but works. Transmission shifts nice. Time to figure out fairing stay and reseal some forks. This is a low budge rebuild so I am not going crazy on parts.
