If the insulators are not cracked, they can be rejuvenated with a few days soak in a 3:1 mix of rubbing alcohol and Wintergreen Oil.

Lowers AND matching upper, with is critical. Mini 1000R that doesn't weigh 600 lbs.

And we are back. Yay! Got my motion pro compression tester to verify rebuild or part out. Good news!
    Cyl 1 = 155
    Cyl 2,3,4 = 160+
    Ordered:
    Slow and mains 2 x 95, 2 x 92. 40s all around on the slow.
    3 x screws/springs for syncing.
Also a spit in the dark but according to the difficult-to-read Microfiche the in-between carb springs as well.
    4 x insulators.

The "pro" that rebuilt these had the wrong size o-rings on each end of the fuel tubes so the carbs wouldn't sit together properly and most likely would have broken when attaching to the plenum.
On the flip side, I won a Mcmaster Carr O-ring kit for $14 (original kit is $180) and it had the correct buna size o-rings for the fuel tube or at least they look correct. -011 I believe. The kit originally came with 37 different-sized o-rings and differing quantities of each. It is down to about 2/3 now but for $14 what eves.

I have 10 days off over Christmas break so maybe I can nearly complete by the time that break is over...but don't count on it. :)

Somehow my parts from Holland (CMSNL) not only had free shipping but arrived faster than my parts being shipped from Texas.. Insulators, jets and sync springs!! woot!

What a pro Fn job the previous person did on these carb! Super appreciate the photos from Colddevil and Capt! They even set the idle bracketry so wrong that I still couldn’t put the carbs onto the plenum, WTF people! That stole an hour of my stress level. Lol

This is exactly why people that think they can, but really can't, need to send their carbs out. Unless you think you are gonna buy 3 more of these types of bikes, or think you're gonna be "the dude" for all your friends with old V4s, just let the pros do what they do.

Rogue, I'll have to say, you went from "I've never done this" to "look at this clown" really fast. Kudos.

Everybody else... just save "hours of stress level" for you and others. Send them to a pro, like Squirrelman. He knows his shit and is a no bullshit dude. Money WELL spent, every time.

I'm glad you got it resolved. The takeaway I'm going to take from this is that if any self-described "pro's" have touched anything, you can be damned sure you're going to have to take the whole thing apart and reassemble it. And spend days if not weeks of your life staring at it wondering wtf.

This one is gonna be awesome once you have it running.

I've said it so many times...

I trust 1% of the people who say they "cleaned the carbs" to have actually done the job right.

Thanks for the props dudes. I really did learn everything from everyone on this forum in combination with Joe V4D. What to do, what not to do. I think I am at the stage of trying a leak down test on these carbs. Still waiting on my seal kit, which may never arrive. Right now I am riding with a combo of older o-rings and new ones that have been replaced from my o-ring kit.
Floats and plenum are older but not flat and the fuel tube o-rings are new from my kit, but may not be exact fit, thus the leak down soon. If those go well, it is then time to clean the F outta the bike. Then I can get a good evaluation on what really needs to be addressed and what can chill. Not looking for another "little red 750" project..lol
    Cheers!

image.jpg So I am taking it that I need a direct line to the carbs with a filter in between? Vacuum operated petcock to where? Carbs? I am un-familiar with this layout.

also can anyone confirm the little tube from the front of the tank goes to evap which is now removed? Plug it ?

You can disable vacuum operation, which I recommend. Original did not run a filter, just the strainer attached to the petcock up in tank.

You can't plug that line unless you have / get a 49 state gas cap.

Why is the fuel hose re-directed to the rear?

Here is the pump removed. No strainer. Guess I need to learn how to remove the vacuum portion properly and go with a filter. image.jpg

I can’t seem to locate a Honda kit for these 500 carbs just going to have to go with eBay unless anyone has a hookup.

Fuel petcock mod successfully completed. Thanks for the link Cold! Shiny bit in the center is fuel level holding steady in the “off” position. image.jpg
