I made it home. Thanks for letting me share in the adventure. Think I got 1200 miles on the weekend and the odometer just flipped 30,000 miles. Long hard life still ahead of her.

I wish I could remember when it was, leading up to this trip, where reg says to me, "I shouldn't need heated gear."

Poor guy - we were half way down the western slope, he's soaked to the bone and froze half to death, the sun's peaking out and the worst is behind us. We stopped for gas and I said, "ya know, I just remembered I have an extra rain coat in my trunk if you want?" What are friends for....

I did figure put what's up with the weather here. See, we are full up on Californians and when you guys show up, nature doesn't like it. The imbalance does wierd stuff and life returns to normal when you guys leave. John got the treatment going over the continental divide and now you. I think that's enough to prove my point.

I made it home. I have lunch at crest in with TerrI. We rode the bike to Atascadero and got a picture by the rotunda.

Did you get into Arches for free? I didn't think about it until later but seems to me this was the national parks free weekend.

Hey Reg. The weather there in that photo's similar to what we have today. Except we have heavy cloud and rain. A but colder I suspect. But there is a nice breeze similar to your which is blowing your flags there!

We can look into that for you. Just FYI, those little yellow balls in the above graphic represent clear sunny skies.

We have clear sunny skies here too. You just need a plane with a pressurized cabin to go see it.

Congrats on arriving home safe and sound!
My last trip through Colorado was plagued with hail and snow storms. Somehow we still had fun though. I think we are a sick bunch at times.

    Funny thing happened last week.
My buddy calls and tells me that he just bought a 2012 BMW GS1200A and it is sitting at the auction in California. He's thinking about flying down and riding it back to Toronto or at least to Kansas where I may fly in to finish the trip. I think he should garage it till spring and then enjoy the warmer weather but that is just my humble opinion or buy another so we could ride both back. Needless to say, his pockets are deeper than mine.

I say tell him to stop being a pussie and go ride the thing home. Depending on where in California, he can avoid what Reg went through by crossing over the Rockies a little further south, and ride a more southern route until he needs to head north. Ride north until it is no longer safe, Park it and go get it with a truck and trailer. May take a couple days more and may put on a few more miles but hey! He is riding.

All true...I think it is somewhere near Fontana CA.

I will pass your sentiments along to inspire him but he better not wait too long as the weather certainly won't be improving regardless of where he chooses to take it.

I know the weather is changing quickly right now, but I think he still has time to do this if he overcomes the Rockies. Even if he runs into a bit of snow as he approaches the central north east, he should be able to ride in it so long as it is not turning to slush on the road and snow covered ground. He may have to wait things out for a few hours, even a day somewhere, but I think that for what he is going to pay for storage, he can buy himself some nice Gerbings Heated Gear and a decent rain suit to go over his riding gear.

I agree, here are routes that would minimize the risk and be enjoyable to ride still. Patience will be the key to sucess and realizing maximum pleasure from the experience. He has good quality gear so I don't see an issue there.

I would like to pick up this bad boy and join him for the ride,

The southern route (I40) is equal in distance for me from what I did, but Tink convinced me I should come through Colorado to say, "Hi."

That's not that bad of a price even though it does not have anti lock brakes. Mileage is ridiculously low.
