So I had a job up in San Luis Obispo that forced me to slab it up there saturday night which was not that fun. So sunday night I wanted to figure out a much more fun route back down south. I checked things out and found a pretty great looking route back home. From SLO I took the 227 down to the 101:

where I had to slab it for about 15 miles to Nipomo where I headed east on the 166 into the hills. After a great ride through sweeping twisties it leveled out into some flat straight bits. Turned south onto the 33 and the flat and straight continued for a bit but eventually got to one of my favorite bits of road on the 33 just north of Ojia (pronounced oh-hi for those not familiar with the area) through the Los Padres National Forest and into the top of Ojia.

After getting into Ojia I took the 150 over and down into Santa Paula and took South Mountain Road over into Barsdale and hooked up with the 23 and went south into Moorpark

It was a total of 192 miles and scheduled for about 4 hours. I stopped a couple times to clean bugs off my visor and stretch. It was the longest and best ride I have done on my VFR to date. I loved every second of it and could have kept going another few hundred miles. Taking breaks really helps stave off the sore body parts. Road conditions were good to excellent the whole way and saw only 1 cop the entire time.

I was doing the same thing this weekend but in a car......wanted to shoot myself every time a bike shot by as I sat in traffic and thought of all the fantastic ways to side step the abortion.

Ive done 166/33/150 route quite a few times, in fact coming home from the Central Coast last year was the last time I did it. Why don't you make the trek this Memorial Day weekend for the VFRWorld R3 event up in Atascadero and go that route the opposite direction.

Made that trip years ago in the mid 80's on our way to Laguna Seca. Can't forget the smell of the chicken ranch on the way out of Ojai !

Chilliwack has lots or both cow shit and chicken shit. Next thing they will be raising is pigs so we can mix pigshit in with that.....lovely.

Definitely chicken shit, you could see the coops on the left going north. I remember that road from when I redlined the VF750 in top gear on the long straight section at the end. Think the speedo said over 125.

Could have been, the way my memory is fading these days! I am sure the ranch is long since gone.

Wait! There was a chicken ranch in California? Wow, I'm sure this would have saved a lot of gas to those who drove all the way to Nevada!
