What ratio of mineral spirits to linssed oil do you recommend using?

On the old Ninja 900 I used a Martin-Senor spray can product called "Bumper Black". You can but it at NAPA stores and its the bomb. No more rubbing crap on your plactic to make it look good. Proper surface prep, spray, let dry and done.

I usually do a 3 to 4 coats and this stuff stinks! I wear a respirator but whew!

    FYI

When restoring wood, it's used to help remove old finishes, stains, etc. Then you reoil the wood.

I often will use a stripper to remove the old finish and stain. Then, I'll use laquer thinner to neutralize and remove the stripper. The process of restoration continues from there.

Here's a photo of one of my restoration projects:

Still use 2 parts mineral spirits to 1 part boiled linseed oil. Thinning the oil allows it to penetrate and when the thinner flashes (drys/evaporates) it leaves the oil behind.

What would happen if somebody used raw linseed oil?

Another method for switch shrouds, chain guards and other bitsas that oxidize. is to scuff em. shoot on a coat of Krylon "Fusion" then paint them all to match. The Fusion makes not only a good topcoat but a great primer for most plastics including ABS.

One area not addressed are the flexible shrouds for OEM mirrors.

I would be real careful sloshing on any sort of DIY mix that can gum up electrical circuits like kill switchs and turn signals. This paint thinner/linseed oil thing may work but at least take the shrouds off first.
