I think it also needs removed to use the 4-1 Hindle system. The collector interferes with the center stand, but that's ok because it's a fair trade.

If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will be on here to correct me.

I assume the owners of center stand removed VF500's are using a Bike stand to lift and support the rear?

You just do everything on the side stand?

Motorcycle lifts like those available from Harbor Frieght are not a good idea for these bikes. They lift from the exhaust and not the frame like they should. For service purposes you should use a swingarm stand and front end stand. I use Lockhart Phillips stands on both ends and they work great. There are lots of brands out there that are similar. Some are nicer (more expensive) and some are cheaper so it depends on how much you want to spend which brand you get. I use mine a lot so I opted for a middle of the road (the LP stands) and they have served me well for the past 15 years I've had them.

    Oh! A Swingarm stand?

I always assumed you needed ones that lift from spools or something.

If I can get a Swingarm rear stand I'll ditch the center stand.

I just use a basic swingarm stand as well - got it cheap, works easy, and I have to use it due to my Vance & Hines exhaust which = no center stand.

I bought a Harbor freight swingarm stand for $39.00. Not the highest quality but does the job. I used it to lift a '95 cbr900rr and a 2000 RC51.

They're in every moto mag in the back or you can just go down to your local cycle gear. They have a few to choose from.

Because throwing the stock centerstand in the scrap bin is the right thing to do!

Why haul around a giant piece of steel everyday just to use it once or twice a year? It never made much sense to me. Swingarm stands are nice because you only need one and can use it for multiple bikes.

I love using the swing arm stand. Its sturdier, etc.

I have never like center stands. And you can't beat the weight reduction.

All of the above reasons as well as the fact that since putting on my slip-ons the Center stand doesn't sit right.

Being that the VFR is a sports touring bike the center stand is a nice option while on the road for chain adjustments and lubing.

...except the VF500 is not a sports touring bike. Plus I've always done my chain adjustments and lubrications with the bike on the side stand. I still think a built-in center stand is a luxury that can be done without.
