Glad we were able to help:whoo:.

MEANTIME - oops I have just realised that you have managed to sneak under the radar onto VFRW! Wot no intro post or pictures. I think we now need you to go directly to the intro section and post up a bit about you and some pictures of that VFR! That way our official greeters will be able to issue a proper welcome to the forum:welcome:

    Take care

Hmmm the plug wasnt the fix after all. Anyone tell me why a 2000 vfr rectifier won't work in an 02? A neighbour has a gimme... It's similar but lacking a black wire.??

    Hey Mike!

Mitch here. Thanks for the pix of your upgrade. I've just experienced some electrical wackiness with my 2006 VFR which according to the posts here sound like classic symptoms of the failing R/R. Even if it is just a cooked wire or connector somewhere along the line, I'm thinking I will replace the R/R to keep future problems to a minimum. With that in mind, now that it has been a while since your upgrade, how are things going? Any regrets with the FH020AA or Roadster cycle as the source (either price or quality)? I'm just starting the research phase of my trouble shoot so any tips you have will also be appreciated!

Again, thanks for the pix and in advance for the update on your R/R.

    Mitch

You state your bike is an 06 and in need of RR replacement? How many miles on the bike, might not be the RR
Please fill us in with more details about your bike issues.

Not yet, but I did order his "LED Voltage Monitor":

The warning indications are as follows:
Green, light charging fine, The window is about 13.2 to 14.8 volts.
Green and red alternating is over voltage (over 15.2 for a standard battery monitor and 15.0 volts for a Shorai battery monitor, not good)
Amber, (bike running) hook up a voltmeter on your bike and see what's happening with it running.
Red or red flashing means your bike is probably not running and you have your lights on, or if your bike is running there is trouble in paradise and you need to take action not to get stranded.

    More sage advice from research:

"Most any charging problem starts with defective wiring, and then one by one the expensive components start to fail. That's usually when you find out something is wrong. But do not make the common mistake of replacing the faulty component and leave it at that!"

For what it's worth, I have a 2007. The original rr and stator failed at 20,000 miles.

Thanks for the response. My 06 has about 8k miles and I am the 3rd owner. have put about 2k on it with no issue. My symptoms were: One morning, turn key on, nothing. off and on again, flicker in console. off and on again and everything lights up normal. fuel pump primes with kill switch, but when I hit the starter, all goes black. I can repeat that as many times as I like with same result. I know there is a wealth of info in various posts and intend to go through "the drill" to rule out grounding issues, fried connectors or wires. The reason I mentioned the R/R is that I gathered from other posts that the R/R is the culprit behind many of the wiring issues and not addressing the root cause would just lead to future issues of the same nature or batteries, other components failing. I've always worked on my own bikes when possible, but I'm no wiring guru so I'll definitely defer to the experience here. I'd like to at least give it a go at getting er back on the road so long as the necessary work can be completed in a few hours (no garage for me this time around).

Anyway, I appreciate the look in and any advice I can get! Having read through many of the posts already, I truly appreciate the knowlege that has been passed along by so many of you!

Thanks again for the help and the welcome. Madness? I was born and raised in that briar patch.

    Mitch
