Welcome to the world of riding man. As others have said accidents happen and they are learning experiences. Rebuild the lil ninja and enjoy it till you move up to your 500.
Jenkins, you are one lucky dude. I started riding in 1987 & while I did in fact learn riding from my Dad, he taught me every bad habit in motorcycling. to name a few: 1. "Helmets will kill you. I only wear on because the law says I have to." Yeah, right Dad, the guys who race in MotoGP only wear them cause it impressess the chicks. 2. "You don't need any of that fancy motorcycle gear, just wear jeans and you'll be fine." Again, yeah, right. Ever heard of road rash? 3. "If you think you're in trouble, bail off & you'll be fine." Don't even know where to start to explain this one. I took a MSF class while I was in USAF Tech School in 1992. I learned right there on the spot that my Dad's riding advice was just about useless. Now, after 20 safe years of riding, I've seen up close & personal the value of proper gear & proper riding technique. Enjoy the two wheeled world Jenkins & make sure you can out ride your dad. While he would probably never say it to your face, I would have to think it would make a father damn proud. I wish I was riding at the moment but I'm here in the sunny middle east on an "all expenses paid vacation" courtesy of the USAF. I already have hotel reservations in Cherokee, NC for when I return so I can go flog the Dragon & vicinity again. KC-10 FE out... lane:
