Yikes! This is why I'm always checking my 6 at intersections. Glad you are relatively ok.

"Checking my six" I love it! Great expression.

And the possibility of a rear ender is why many folks suggest keeping the bike in 1st gear (clutch in of course)while waiting for the light to turn...if you see someone coming at you from behind you at least have the option of quickly gassing it to move out of the way.

Yeah, staying in 1st is something they teach in the basic MSF. It probably didn't matter with the OP's situation as they were already rolling, but you never know.

Intersections are exercises in situational awareness. There are so many things that can go wrong at an intersection. Things that we take for granted while in a cage. I never, never pull directly behind a cage at an intersection. I'll stop to the right or left, leaving myself a possible "out".

I motorcyle commute in Atlanta an average of 3 days a week. There's no telling what would have happened by now had I not been on my toes. It's still easy to get lax about it, but like clockwork, someone does something stupid to reel me back in.

    Boy Howdy! JB1976 is right.
Consider intersections to be the Twilight Zone areas of riding. Very dangerous! Always watch and expect the unexepected. Always have an "out" planned.

Wow blue you are lucky and Im glad your 98% back because that graph looks intense. Black I am also you are ok and you still have your spirits about you to go out and look for a new/used bike. Good luck with that. On a lighter note both "Black" and "Blue" have posted here. Coincidence?????

That was just one side of the graft. The other side looks the same.

They had to perform a procedure called a fasciotomy. I had compartment syndrome, which basically means the swelling was choking off my blood vessels and nerves and without cutting me open to relieve it, my lower leg would have "died". A couple weeks with a "wound vac" that sucked out the swelling, with TORTUREOUS pain(they had to peel off the padding from my open leg, basically like tearing apart skin, which no matter how much morphine I had, I was in tears everytime), and then they took skin from my theigh to cover it up.

Blue double kudos to you! Im glad you are back to rideing after all that you endoured. Along with other things, I am an EMT and on wednesday we picked up a guy that crashed his Yama Davidson. He oversteered/understeered and hit the curb while turning. He dislocated his right leg and right shoulder. He flat up told me he was done with rideing. He also told me that he had been rideing for 15-20 years and that this was his second wreck.(He was able to "limp" out of the hospital later). So double:thumbsup: to both you and Black for not giving up on the freedom of rideing. Ride safe everyone.

Thanks again to all for the kind comments and good wishes.

I wanted to let you know, I was very fortunate to find a 1999 YELLOW VFR in Toronto with only 35,000 kms on it. Needless to say, I phoned immediatly to see if it was still available and I bought it and brought it home on Sunday (8 days after the rear end accident that destroyed my Black VFR). She is a beauty! Changed my Avatar to reflect the new ride. I also put a couple pictures up in my gallery if you want to see the new-to-me VFR.

Thanks again for all the kind words. I'll be back out on the road next week!

    Cheers!

    Hey Joey_Dude,

When you know what you want, just go for it! I did.

My Mantra - Allow me to be open and aware of the opportunities around me and give me strength and confidence to make the right decisions based on these opportunities.

The bike was there, I saw it, it was the one I was looking for, I bought it.

    I am happy!
