That's gotta be an error/typo. I have a 4th gen, 5th gen, Valkyrie, and Super Hawk Factory Honda Service Manuals, and all on the oil filter cartridge are are 7 ft-lbs.
Anyhoo, ditch the 20, you'll have a whole lotta fun trying to get it off.

You would think so, comments on the FireBlade Forum are similar (their manuals call for 20 lb-ft torque too). All of us for years have followed the 3/4 to 1 1/2 turn rule, with great success, in cases where that has not been enough, you retighten a little. I think torque specs can be taken both ways, both as a minimum so as not to leak and as a maximum as not to snap bolts, etc. The same goes for spark plugs, hand tighten + 1/2 to 3/4 turn more. I think the whole point of these threads is that the welded nut on the K&N filters is the culprit, they can't withstand over tightening. My email to K&N Tech Support has gone un answered. (liability issue?). The manual state the oil pressure is 71 PSI at 6000 RPM, as long as the seal holds, everything is fine, and there may be minor leaks, but the K&N issue is a catastrophic failure of the weld. Sudden, large leak, not good. I went down on the Crest at 40 MPH from some one else's oil leak, not fun.
